Practicing for our potential future bakery and cafe, using only fresh ingredients and no mixes. The final presentation will be improved, and it will look as delicious as it tastes. This is a Key Lime Cake, and every week we feature a different dessert.

As we are getting back into the real world after being in the store almost everyday for 4+ years, we see some of the stupidity some places are doing. We were aware of most of these but now it is widespread.

We will NEVER do these things. I am sure many small owners will agree.

1) A tip jar. As a self employed person there are days we made "below minimum wage". Factor in overhead and well, there you go. We see tip jars way overused. It is embarrassing to have one out. Pay a fair wage.

2) Charge card service fee. We are charged roughly 1.5% of the transaction amount so on a $100 sale that would be $1.50. Stores are starting to charge a fee of 3%-5% for using a credit card. Other options they suggest are cash or a check. We trust a charge over a check any day. These fees to us are the cost of doing business.

3) Add on fee do to rising costs. Some places are posting very small signs that say "due to the cost of doing business there will be a fee of X% added to your total bill." These % have been 5%-15%. So if it is a restaurant your $100 bill we now be $115 plus a tip let's say of 20% so you will be paying roughly $138. PLUS if you tag on their 5% credit card fee, you will be charged $144.90. So a bill that normally would have been $120 including tax is now about $25 higher.

Yes, we are a small business and can adjust our business as we need to but these "fees " will never be found in our store. We walk out of businesses that pull this. We know tip jars are not mandatory but are so unnecessary in many places including gift stores, doctor/dentist offices, take out places. Does someone really go to a fine restaurant for take out and tip them? It is a cashier ringing up food a chef is being paid well above minimum wage to prepare. They sometimes make a lot more than you. If you have extra money to spend like this send it our way :) We will call it a donation...ha ha.

Support your local small businesses but small business owners don't take advantage of your customers or they may be a one and done due to your fees.

For those who know our store, a lot is gone! We have officially closed but we have our doors open as we pack and people pick up items. We are still selling as we pack.
