South Florida Depression Glass Club
Social and educational club for lovers of American depression era glass. Visit our website at http://www.sfdgc.com Our program starts at 1:00 pm.
The club usually meets on the 4th Saturday of the month at 12:00 pm for refreshments and to socialize. We meet at the Wilton Manors Women’s Club (at Hagen Park). The address is 600 NE 21st Court Wilton Manors, FL 33305. Meetings include a business section, a presentation by a guest speaker or member, show and tell, glass identification, silent auction of glass and refreshments. Guests are always welcome!
Found this in my glass research folder. Shows many of those hard to find lamps usually listed as Tiffin because made at the US Glass Tiffin factory.
Reminder that our club meeting is this Saturday Aug 24. Celeste Y and Jim M will be giving a program on Demitasse Cups & Saucers. Some call these little ones espresso cups, cuban coffee cups too etc…As always, we will have our Show & Tell and ID table. Photo is of a pretty pink Fostoria Versaille etch demitasse cup/saucer set. Fostoria actually called them “after dinner” cups.
This is a piece you don’t see too often. A pink ashtray/ match and pack holder in the Depression glass pattern Flower Garden with Butterflies. Made by US Glass Tiffin plant 1924. A fun pattern to collect as it comes in many colors: pink, green, canary, yellow, blue-green, amber, and black. Photo credit: mossantiques24 on ebay
I brought this to the oddities program but didn’t get a good photo of it in the last post, so thought I would put it up separately as everyone was intrigued seeing it. An example of an antique goblet with stapled glass repair. This kind of repair was done on glass and ceramics in the 1700s-1800s. Small holes were drilled. then the metal staples were inserted. I have not been able to ID this goblet but probably European/Bohemian from the late 1800s or turn of the century.
We had a very interesting and varied July member participation program titled “Glass Oddities.” It was really just a chance to share something people thought was unique in some way or a piece that members may not have seen before. Something with a cool function, unusual color or decoration, or a rarity. We even had some cool pottery. Since it was National Day of the Cowboy, Jim brought some cowboy pottery from Stangl and Redwing. Thanks to all who brought items!
If you are into Mid Century glass, you might want to register for this online Glass College that Museum of Glass in WV is doing.
BEGINNING ONE WEEK FROM TODAY! GLASS COLLEGE ONLINE: MID-CENTURY MODERN AMERICAN GLASSWARE
Tom Felt will give an overview of swung vases, featuring examples from Viking, L. E. Smith, Fenton, Westmoreland, Kanawha, and some lesser known companies that might come as a surprise to collectors of these massive pieces.
This is just one of the four presentations that will be part of our Mid-Century Modern Glass College Online this year. To register or for more details go to https://magwv.org/about/glass-college-online/
I'm much more excited by the amazing decorations on these primrose pieces than the fact that they glow under blacklight.
Don’t forget our glass club meeting is this Saturday July 27. We are having a member participation program on “Glass Oddities.” Bring something unusual in glass to share… interesting function, rare or experimental color/decoration, end of day or whimsies, or just something people may not have seen. Photo is from when I did a talk on oddities back in April 2023 and I brought this rare petalware plate promo piece from 1929 with it’s original label instruction for sending Oxydol box tops in for plates. Guests always welcome at meetings!
Another old ad featuring a fun breakfast tablescape. This one with Westmoreland milk glass. Love the square plates and the chickens.
Great photos looking down on the National Depression Glass Show in Tiffin OH this weekend.
Cool 1948 ad using Imperial Cape Cod for breakfast. Cape Cod is plentiful but you don't see those egg cups very often.
This is always a fun one and there is a thrift store open at the church too.
Have a safe fun 4th! Fenton Stars & Stripes glass hat.
Always love the old ads and this one is fun as it includes a glass premium. Says “Enclose $2.00 and box top from any Lipton Soup mix box to receive the set of 6 Soup mugs.” These are Glasbake mugs from the 1960s.

We had a fantastic Crash Course on Pyrex for our June meeting program. Our speaker Eryn Brunt treated us to a huge (4 tables) display of mugs, coffepots, mixing bowls, bakers, casseroles, trays, go-along items etc… Besides many of the patterns/pieces we have had in our homes or seen over the years, we got to see pieces from England, France, Australia, Canada and other countries. I never knew all these countries produced Pyrex and had colorful and completely different patterns from the US ones. Thank you so much Eryn and she also supplied the cool panoramic photo!
I hope all my South Fl people are doing okay after the week of flooding rains. You must be ready to get out of the house and come to a glass club meeting this Sat June 22. We are excited to be having a program titled “PYREX: A Crash Course” with Eryn Brunt as presenter. Eryn has a huge collection and is extremely knowledgeable, so this should be really fun! Program starts at 1 pm. Guests are always welcome.
Photo: Pyrex Dots Nested Mixing Bowls, 1968-1973. Photo 2: Eryn's pyrex wall!
Here is a wow piece you don't see often. Heisey Ipswich Sahara Yellow Cocktail Shaker. Has the 2 pc glass strainer with stopper. Sold on Ebay for $1300. Someone needed that. LOL
I always thought this was a really cool creamer/sugar set. Especially hard to find with the sugar lid. Pattern is Rock Crystal by McKee 1920s and 1930s. Pattern came in many colors and many different pieces.
We had a fabulous program on Paden City Glass by Laura Giglio at our May club meeting. Laura brought an amazing selection of pieces and shared a lot of great info. I must say Paden City did some incredibly detailed etches and she showed us how they truncated many of them to fit on the smaller pieces. There were a few rare etches and in the photos you will see a few closeups. A big thanks to Laura for setting up such a wonderful colorful and varied display!
Our club meeting is this Saturday May 25. We will be treated to a program on Paden City Glass by Laura Giglio. Paden City Glass produced an eclectic selection of glass from kitchen glass to glass animals to depression patterns like Crows Foot, Emerald Glo, and Penny line. They are also known for their elegant large intricate etches and cool shaped vases. Socializing and refreshments start at noon and our program begins at 1 pm.
Info on Cambridge convention.

Good quick info.
Check out this beautiful table setting of Fenton aqua crest and there is an epergne too so covers 2 of our recent programs.
Interesting Fenton pattern I never heard of with horses heads, sold for $200 on ebay. Photo and info below courtesy of ebay user name Ritzy Caboodle. Please note: I have not confirmed this information.
"Fenton #1665 Glass Horse Head Medallion Bowl. Fenton made this pattern from 1912-1920 in marigold carnival glass. It was reissued in the Rose pink color in 1930. This is a rare bowl. It is 6 1/2" in diameter. I’ve only seen 2 other ones like it come to market."
Love this ad for Fostoria Milk Glass. The depiction of a traditional woman (left) and Modern woman (right) is hysterical! The furniture is exactly the same except for the chair. Don’t really see the difference in the styles of the glass either.
For our April meeting, we had a cool members program of mix n match table place settings using vintage china and glass. The photos speak for themselves. If they supplied an ID card, I will place those in the comments of the individual photo and those that didn’t bring an ID card, feel free to comment and put your info on your photo. If it was all one pattern I put that right on the photo.
Club meeting reminder: This Sat April 27 we are back at our normal meeting place 600 NE 21st Court, Wilton Manors. Our member program is “Your Table is Ready.” I hope members have been planning their creative place setting to show off. Can be all one pattern or mix and match colors, patterns, glass and china. Add flatware, napkins, placemats, stemware etc…any pieces to fit your theme. I will be photographing for Facebook and Instagram to inspire others with ideas on using vintage glass for entertaining. Should be a fun one!
