We had another wonderful session with Art By Mikell today, and it was truly inspiring to see the creativity and enthusiasm of our young artists!

In this class, we focused on the fundamental skill of using a number 2 pencil to create a detailed landscape. We started by learning various shading techniques, such as hatching, cross-hatching, and blending, to add depth and dimension to our drawings. The children were eager to experiment with these methods, and it was incredible to see their skills develop as the session progressed.

Guided by step-by-step instructions, each child began to sketch their landscapes, incorporating elements like mountains, trees, and rivers. They applied their newfound shading techniques to bring their scenes to life, adding shadows and highlights to create a realistic and dynamic effect.

The results were impressive! Each landscape was unique, reflecting the individual creativity of the young artists. It was a joy to witness their pride and excitement as they shared their finished pieces with the group.

Today’s session not only honed their drawing skills but also boosted their confidence and appreciation for the art of shading. We can’t wait to see how they continue to grow and express themselves in future classes!

A few people have asked us about our needs out here since we’ve had a recent increase in intakes so I thought I would put the immediate needs here as we NEVER will ask for help but others WANT to help. We love 🫶🏼 you all and your continued support is just so heartwarming!

🐑 Tarps-medium to large extra strong tarps. We use these for immediate shelter while we build permanent shelters for our new friends who join.

🐐 Zip ties- all sizes especially the really thick ones for industrial projects

🦙 Outdoor screws-all sizes from 3/8”-4” are used here to build shelters

🐖 Lumber-anything! So if you have a pile that you are wanting to get rid of we would happily take it and turn it into some sort of shelter (we are getting really good at becoming MacGyver here! Most “junk” items we can turn into something fictional.

🐓 Metal-for animal shelter roofing or siding

🦃 Livestock water buckets and feed bowls. Most of our animals will have a total of 4 bowls/buckets in their area when they first arrive: water, grain, mineral and baking soda.

We purchase most things at Tractor Supply, Harbor Freight, Boomgars, and Gillmans (local lumber yard).

We had another amazing session in our Tiny Hands Class today with a fantastic group of kids!

Our activity began with the reading of "The Color Monster" by Anna Llenas. This delightful story captivated the children, introducing them to the concept of emotions through a charming character who is a little mixed up.

After enjoying the book, we transitioned to a hands-on art project that perfectly complemented the story. The children created their own color monsters using a fun and expressive blow painting technique. They loved watching the vibrant colors spread across their papers, each creating a unique and personal monster that reflected their interpretation of the emotions we discussed.

It was heartwarming to see the kids engage so deeply, both with the story and the creative process. Their excitement and creativity made this session truly memorable!

Most locals know that Now and Then was based on our beloved town. The Gaslight Addition, which was heavily hit by the tornado, played an important role in the story.

Since before the tornado and with the 30th anniversary of the movie quickly approaching, a committee has been growing to celebrate it with different activities during a multi-day event.
