Holiday hours reminder!
We hope everyone is enjoying time with family and friends!
This is a schedule for Occupational Therapy ONLY, other disciplines may have alternate schedules.
4 MORE tips to help ease the holiday craziness!
1. Children learn through watching parents, so when you take a sensory break or model your own sensory preferences, they're learning how to regulate!
2. Using consistent tools (like Zones of Regulation, or Alert Program), help simplify feelings/tools for your child.
3. A visual schedule helps kids identify what is expected of them that day and helps to ease transitions between tasks.
4. Make time in your day for a 5 min sensory diet to help your child's nervous system stay organized throughout the day.
Need some holiday survival tips?!
Holidays are just as tricky for kids as they can be for adults-new people, new environments, new expectations, and out of a routine!
Here are a few of our favorite sensory tips:
1. As much as you can, keep your routine consistent, even if it's just one or two things! Less changes mean less unexpected activities that can make children feel nervous/upset.
2. Have your child's "go to" toys or fidget tools with you at all times! You never know when your children may need some regulating support.
3. Avoid pressuring your child into challenging tasks. The holidays can already be a challenge so don't push your child to do a winter activity- even if all the cousins/siblings are doing it.
4. Respect boundaries for your child, and make sure other adults are aware of them as well! Aunts and Uncles may not know some of your child's sensory needs to help them feel/act their best.
