Our 11th Annual visits to local hospitals in our communities kicked off Tuesday, October 1st with our inaugural visit to CHRISTUS Children's Hospital in .
Giavonna, our San Antonio Operations Manager, mentioned that the children enjoyed building their pumpkins and the excitement and smiles on their faces made her day as well as her team members.
Rumor has it Jaime, the therapy dog in the hospital, decorated this pumpkin in the second photo without any assistance. That's our story and we are TRULY sticking to it! 😂
The program was created in 2014 by Michelle Nolen, daughter of the late Truly David Nolen and director of operational administrative support. That year, she decided to visit TMC for Children in our company’s headquarter city to bring some Halloween cheer to some children who might otherwise not receive the attention that other holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah typically do.
“We wanted to give kids a nice distraction because it is never fun to be at a hospital or away from their siblings,” Nolen said. “Anything we can do to brighten a child’s day is a great gift to them. In addition, for their families to be able to breathe a little bit and know that they are not alone and to have something their children can smile about, look forward to doing, and brighten up their hospital room a little bit is why we do what we do.”
With 45 more hospitals to visit over the next 30 days across 13 states and 3 Canadian provinces, we look forward to doing what we can to help continue the legacy of why we do this! 🐭🚗🎃👻🦇🕷️🕸️💛

German Cockroach
Although named the German cockroach, the most widespread cockroach pest in the world probably originated in Southeast Asia and expanded to urban areas through human travel and commerce. The first specimens to be identified may have been from Germany and assumed to be German. However, the fact that cold is a major limiting factor to their survival points to their not being native to Europe.
German cockroaches are domestic pests that rely on humans for food, harborage and transportation. They are rarely found outdoors and not in wild populations away from structures. Although they have fully developed wings, they do not fly since they are specialized for living with and being transported by humans. They also have certain reproductive traits that allow infestations to grow rapidly.
While most cockroach species drop their egg capsules, German cockroach females carry theirs until the eggs are ready to hatch, which helps prevent dehydration and parasitism. Each German cockroach egg capsule contains around 40 eggs, about double the number produced by most other cockroaches. Also, the time period from egg to reproductive adult is shortest for German cockroaches, about two to three months.
After warmth, water is more important than food and they can survive longer without food than without water.
