As we age the fluid levels in our bodies begin to decline and women specifically feel these effects. Like a pot of boiling water, we balance a source of heat and fluids to stay at a steady temperature. Every woman is different but when a woman's hormones decrease, they could potentially develop uncomfortable hot flashes and night sweats. The good news? Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help!

Pain in the jaw can be such a pain in the rump. Tempo-mandibular joint pain is often not a problem so much with the joint but more in how the muscles and tendons are acting on the jaw. This can cause discomfort, from mild to excruciating, when chewing, talking, sleeping or even when you're not doing anything at all. Acupuncture can be an excellent way to relieve this pain in just few treatments.

All people suffering through this new year need support and that definitely includes the ICU and ER staff at our local hospitals and urgent care centers. One of the ways New Hope OM likes to help support our community is by offering the NADA protocol. This 15-minute session can be used alone or in conjunction with more thorough acupuncture sessions and Chinese herbal medicine to detoxify, reduce stress, sleep more soundly, relieve pain and so much more.

Lee has a passion for Chinese medicine; tries to live and embody it in his own life and his practice.

LF: "I have always loved many different foods for as long as I can remember. Whenever I am not quite myself, feeling run down or come down with the occasional bug, I turn to soups and stews, broths and braises."

According to Chinese medicine, cauliflower is sweet in taste, neutral in temperature and enters the Spleen, Kidney and Stomach channels. These qualities strengthen the body and lubricate the intestines. When soup is very easily digestible, it can help with the debilitated and weak feeling after a bad cold or flu.

Roasted Cauliflower Soup

1 head cauliflower
1 medium onion, diced
1 fennel bulb, diced (optional)
1 TBSP Minced Garlic
4-5 cups broth (vegetable or chicken)
1 Tsp ground cumin (optional)
1 tsp curry powder (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut up cauliflower and toss with oil, salt, pepper. Roast for 30-45 minutes stirring halfway. Meanwhile, sauté over medium-high heat the onion, garlic, and fennel until soft and translucent then add the curry powder and cumin. Deglaze with a little water or broth and then add the rest of the broth to the pot. Add cauliflower and cover. Cook over medium heat until everything is soft, about 15-20 minutes. Mash for a more rustic feel or blend until smooth for a creamier finish. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve with a dollop of sour cream or yogurt.

Another testimonial Tuesday! We love hearing from our clients about their first experiences, their progress along their journey and sharing the results they are seeing.

Timeline photos 03/20/2022

Thankfully we are coming out of the winter and beginning spring! Many of us caught something nasty this cold season but there are many things we can do at home to repair and recuperate.
• Soups and easily digestible stews are great way to replenish ourselves of lost nutrients.
• Deep, slow, smooth abdominal breathing can bring us the much needed peace to rebuild our energy.
• Self massage can open the channels, move lymph and recirculate blood to clean and regenerate our bodies.

Of course Chinese medicine including acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can help too but the transition out of a cold or flu or into the new spring season with ease can start in your own home.

Fun Fact: The liver is super important and it plays a role in the body's ability to metabolize. Liver damage and reduced function can cause many symptoms such as headaches, nausea, insomnia, mood swings and irritability. It can also reduce the liver's ability to breakdown fatty acids causing fat accumulation in the form of triglycerides. Without getting too technical here, what we know is that balancing Liver Qi and increasing liver function can support healthy weight.

The wellness recommendation for weight control in addition to acupuncture includes formulas that help clear phlegm damp and remove Qi stagnation in the GI tract as well as nurture liver yin. - from Acupuncture TodayDr Sarah Li

Case Study: A 70 year old hispanic man presented with a chief complaint of both feet feeling 'weird' and soreness that felt worse at nights for several months. He had developed tingling and numbness in this toes and the balls of his feet which caused him to wobble while on the treadmill. The patient didn't drink alcohol or smoke, had never been on statin drugs and had no history of diabetes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lifestyle modifications were discussed and the patient committed to two sessions a week for 10 weeks to which he immediately felt better and by the fifth visit was able to walk without swaying on the treadmill. Treatments were continued once a week thereafter and sustained improvement was felt! To this moment, the patient continues treatments every two weeks as a tuneup!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Investing in immunity, it's a thing and can be little complex but we got you! Theres an axiom within traditional Chinese medicine that says, "treat the patient not the disease". Resolving unique patterns of disharmony involves many physiological and psychological processes which in turn improve an immune response. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When the Qi and blood are flowing unencumbered, spleen Qi is strong, blood is nourished, and the kidneys are banked, then "immunity" is functioning smoothly within your body! That's what we are aiming for. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So join us to find balance, it can take time, but as with all things, we must trust the process and we will find our way to our version of success.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Have you ever heard of ear seeds?! We use these in our office a lot - in fact when you get a treatment package we include two ear seed sessions ($40 value)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But let's talk about these thingys! Ear seeds are a form of auriculotherapy but it is not a needle! It is a small ball made of either crystal, silver or gold and its applied under a small bandage to press on a certain point in the ear. To an unknowing eye, ear seeds might look like any other piece of jewelry, but these tiny studs are actually an extension of acupuncture and serve the powerful purpose of promoting calm and easing pain. The points are determined by Dr. Lee based on your current treatment plan and placed to support continued care in-between your regular sessions. You can press on them and massage them to get a little acupuncture treatment anytime you want! They typically come off in 3-5 days. They are a great way to continue getting the benefits of your acupuncture treatments while you're out enjoying this amazing life of yours!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Next time you are in the office and you purchase a acupuncture treatment package know that it includes two mini ear seed applications!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are just a few things that ear seeds may be able to help with according to Parsley Health: improve mental health, reduce pain, and aiding insomnia treatments and anxiety.

This week we are talking about a Temporomandibular Joint, more commonly known as “TMJ”! Did you know, acupuncture serves as one of the most effective drug-free treatments available for TMJ?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
TMJ can be caused by a combination of muscle tension (teeth grinding), anatomical problems, injury. There could even be a psychological component from someone clenching their jaw during a time of emotional tension, or intense determination. Many people are completely unaware that these muscles can remain tense for long periods of time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Symptoms of TMJ can include everything from severe headaches, neck/shoulder pain, earaches and dizziness to pain when you chew or open your mouth. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Acupuncture is extremely helpful in relieving the inflammation, pain and tension commonly associated with TMJ. It seeks to resolve the root of a condition which ultimately results in eliminating the pain and discomfort of the symptoms. So in using acupuncture we are treating the root cause – stress, muscle tension, system imbalances, as well as the pain in the jaw area, all in one treatment. Acupuncture relieves muscle spasms and decreases pain and swelling releasing the jaw naturally so the joint can move more freely. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A British study of 70 cases of dental patients receiving acupuncture for TMJ indicated that 85% of patients benefited with an average reduction in pain intensity of 75%. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these symptoms, come see us! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
