Juneteenth symbolizes freedom and the end of slavery in the United States. It is a day to honor African American culture, history, and achievements. Juneteenth also serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for civil rights and social justice. It is a day to reflect on the progress made and the work that remains in the pursuit of equality.
Juneteenth’s history reflects the long and complex journey toward freedom and equality for African Americans, making it a significant part of American history and culture.
Though Texas has recognized June 19th as a holiday since 1980, it wasn’t until June 17, 2021 that President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law, making Juneteenth a federal holiday.
