Hello Families! Inspiration is preparing for Hurricane Dorian and we hope you are too! In the days that come Inspiration will be closed only if it is unsafe to occupy the building or travel. Please call if you have a problem. If cell phone service is unavailable during or after the storm or you can not reach one of us on your list in the binder, go to the nearest hospital. If you do not have the list of numbers, please reach out! If the birth center continues to have power, our center will be open to anyone of our families in need. After the storm, If you are without power or are unsafe where you are, please reach out to us and we will accomodate you at the center if we can. During the storm it will be best to stay in a secure shelter if need be. Once Inspiration's building has been assessed after the storm and is in good shape, it will be open to any in need. Even if that's just to do laundry!! Please let us know. We are happy to help with resources and community connections as well. We want all our families safe and sound during and after the storm!
Hi Families! If any one is in need or knows of a family in need of a rental space, there is an opportunity for a 2 bedroom/ 1 bath available space. Hello Everyone!
Inspiration has some big news! Inspiration Family Birth Center will be merging with Tree of Life Birth and Gynecology, effective September 1, 2019! We are very excited about this change.
As you know Inspiration Family Birth Center’s building has been a leased birth center for almost 28 years. The building was sold recently and will be torn down in the coming year. The owners have expedited taking over the building, and not renewing the leases of the current tenants.
Inspiration Health Care, LLC will remain, and I will continue to serve patient through Tree of Life only. Their nationally accredited facility has welcomed our patients and will work on easing our transition into their practice.
Over the coming months we will be seeking out new property to expand Tree of Life into other locations and Inspiration will be a big part of that! The spirit of cooperative midwifery is very strong, and I am sure this will be a huge benefit for both Tree of Life and for Inspiration to partner.
If you are a current patient with Inspiration, we may have already spoken in person. All contracts will be honored, and no changes in services or contract amount will occur. The only change will be the location that you go to have your prenatal visits and have your baby!
The Inspiration facility itself will Close October 1. All patient will be transitioned into Tree of Life. I will start seeing patients at Tree of Life’s facility September 1. Those due in September will deliver at the Inspiration Family Birth Center. Those due October 1 and beyond will deliver at Tree of Life.
This is a bittersweet event for me personally. Inspiration has been my life for 10 years. By the time we close our doors October 1, we will have delivered 1200 babies! There are many sweet memories here. I encourage any of you that would like to come take pictures of where your babies were born before it is destroyed to do so. I am excited about a new adventure and building a true cooperative community of birthing centers throughout Central Florida, so that more families can have access to birthing center services. In this environment of health care and economy, it is a team effort that will push us to this goal! I am grateful for Kaleen Richardson at Tree of Life for welcoming us as partners on this new adventure.
If you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to reach out to me personally. My cell phone number is 407-625-0482. Our goal is a smooth transition and happy families!

04/26/2019 MEMO: To All Clients and Families of Inspiration Family Birth Center
Hello Families!
2019 is going to be a big year for Inspiration Family Birth Center! There are some changes coming to our practice that I wanted to fill you in on.
The first big change is that Mary Surprenant – our incredible super midwife – is starting her own home birth practice! Blessings in Abundance has launched and we couldn’t be any happier for Mary! She will still be with Inspiration for the time being in a part-time position as a midwife. I will be coming back to the practice as a midwife. I am excited to be back taking care of mama’s and their babies! We also still have Laura Nathan in our practice as well as a backup midwife. So our team is still serving you, just in a different configuration.
For those of you who do not know me, I have practiced as a midwife for 14 years. I practiced as a homebirth midwife assistant and doula professionally for 11 years prior to that. I have attended thousands of births and am proud to have delivered over 900 babies personally. I stepped back from practice several years ago for personal and family reasons, but am happy to bring all of my experience and knowledge to taking care of our clients once again.
The next big change for Inspiration is that we are moving! We were informed that our landlord has sold the property and that the complex is scheduled for demolition in 2020. Our 32 year legacy as a birthing center in this building, first as Winter Park Birthing Cottage with Alice Pillay, and then as Inspiration Family Birth Center – will come to an end. We are searching for a new facility and am excited to build a brand new space! While our current building is dear to our hearts, we look forward to upgrading our facility and creating a new modern space that will serve our families for years to come! This change will be months down the road. Our anticipated move would be in 2020. I wanted to let each of you know about this change early and will update as move along in the process.
We know you may have lots of questions. We are happy to answer them to the best of our ability. We are very proud of our practice and am happy you have chosen us for your care. Our clients are our number one priority and you can rest assured that these changes will not affect the care you are receiving or the plans and agreements already in place.
I look forward to getting to know all our new clients and connecting with our returning clients
Good morning Friends/Family!!! So we are having internet outage today which is placing our phone line in the down mode as well. If you call you will get a voicemail but can't get past that. So if you need us please call Marys number # 407-466-5982. Thanks for understanding! We will let you know when we are back up and running as usual.
Something to think about

Hello Inspiration Family!
We at Inspiration have a lot of changes going on. You may have noticed or heard about some of them. I wanted to touch base with everyone and get you all updated!
As you may have heard, we decided last year to downsize our practice. This was for a few different reasons. The main reason was a financial need to downsize. The second and more personal reason, was to take Inspiration back to its roots as a small, concierge practice, that really put its clients first.
Over the years that I have owned Inspiration we have had to make many tough decisions in a climate not conducive to good health care for pregnant mamas or their families. I believe that maternity care should be fundamental to a health care system and not a big business model. Last year we decided to put our mamas first and downsize our physical location. This allowed us to still take Medicaid regardless of how long those insurance companies took to pay us or at the lower rates of reimbursement.
We always want to put the needs of our patients first, especially for those most vulnerable and in need of great, compassionate midwifery care. Florida Medicaid has cut our reimbursements rates consistently every year. Commercial insurances like Cigna and United Health Care are taking, on average, 5 months to pay for services we provide to our clients. Since commercial insurance cannot be billed until the baby is born, this means that for the average mama with insurance, we will wait over 1 year for payment for services rendered, while still paying our staff and bills at Inspiration. This has been an on-going battle for quite some time, but we are seeing significant delays in payment getting worse as time goes on. A significant amount of our resources are being spent on simply getting paid for what we do every day. This is not unique to Inspiration or even to midwives. Doctor practices have the same struggles as well. Insurance is a Billion Dollar business, and it doesn’t like to pay its bills without some work on our part!
January 1st, 2019 Florida Medicaid cut our reimbursements rates again. The combination of long payment delays, lack of affordable healthcare coverage for families, uninsured/underinsured clients and Medicaid cuts has put me in the very unfortunate position of having to make some serious changes to our practice so that we may keep the doors open and midwifery services available to those who want it.
As of February 1, 2019, our dearest Meg Folsom has moved on to work for another practice. This was a decision made based on the needs of her family and ours at Inspiration. She is still and always will be a part of Inspiration, just in a different way. She is near and dear to hearts and we are sad to see her leave us on the day to day business end. She has our respect and admiration for years of incredible services. We look forward to keeping her in the loop as a birth assistant and of course for Placenta Encapsulation!
In addition, our wonderful Midwife Laura Nathan, has started her own practice! Her home birth practice is Modern Orlando Midwifery. This has been Laura’s plan from the beginning and we always knew she would fly off to have her own practice someday. She chose to jump start her future in 2019. We could not be prouder of her and the work she is doing! She also will always be a part of Inspiration.
We will be introducing one new face, Kat Whitley :O) She is our Birth Assistant and has been with us for several months. She is an Inspiration mama and has come to join our practice as Mary’s assistant. Mary, Ally, and I will be staying with Inspiration of course, and keeping our practice alive and well and serving families as we can.
We will be making some changes as we go along and prepare for what is coming next. I am working at political levels and with Insurance reps and the Insurance commission to hold Insurance companies accountable for their actions and long delays. This will not be an easy road over the next year, but I am hopeful we will make great progress and again be able to provide even more expanded services through the birth center!
We hope that if you have any questions or concerns about these changes or anything that you see happening – please reach out to us. We are very open about our practice and want every single Inspiration family to feel loved, welcomed, supported and mostly importantly HEARD. So please talk to us anytime! We are here for you!
Hey all Moms and Moms-to-be.... IFBC was blessed with these MommyCon tickets for this weekend! We are here today in the office if you would like to come pick one up!

Inspiration Administrative staff.
Hello to All our Lovely Inspiration Families! We have a few new announcements!
Our first big announcement is that we have decided to down size our offices. This is due to some ongoing negative changes in insurance and medicaid reimbursement. We have chosen to reduce our overhead, so we can continue to serve all our mothers, regardless of insurance. Unfortunately Medicaid is again proposing to reduce our reimbursement another 20% this year. However our staff will stay the same! All our dedicated staff members will be here to serve you.
However, here at Inspiration we are excited about this upcoming change! Over the years as we have grown and tried to accommodate as many families as we can, we have gotten away from our roots as a small, concierge practice. So we have decide to change up a few things at Inspiration to achieve our goals of spoiling our families 100%. We want to spend more quality time with you doing our visits. You will notice changes in our facilities itself and our scheduling processes for your prenatal visits and lab work. We are striving to reduce wait times to ZERO! We understand the frustration of long wait times in our busy worlds.
Our facilities are also getting an upgrade! The Birth Center building will now be our home for all activities. The building at 415 S. Orlando Avenue, where you have gone for your Prenatal visits will no longer be our building. All your care will be done in our Birth Center facility. During the next few months you will see some significant construction and upgrades to our center, so please be on the look out! We are doing these changes in small segments, as to not affect operations.
I know many of you will ask "what about Juliette and Family Tree Chiropractic?" we are so glad you asked! She will be following us and continuing care for our clients and hers at the Birth center building.
We know you may have a lot of questions about our changes and we encourage you to ask!
We are excited about the changes, and getting back to our very individualized, personalized style of care for our families! Please bear with us while we make this big change. It will happen over several weeks. Natarsha will be in touch if your upcoming appointment will be affected. we expect the move to be completed by February 12th.
We value your feedback and would love to hear from you about what is working and what isn't! We are always striving to be of better service to our families.
Good morning Inspiration Family!
Damien Pillay, a certified CPR instructor, will be teaching a CPR certification class in our prenatal office on Tuesday, January 16th from 3PM-5PM.
