Join Us as a Volunteer Poll Worker and Support Our Community!

Join us in ensuring the fairness of our elections by volunteering as a poll worker for the upcoming November 5th, 2024, election. Your commitment can make a difference! Not only will you help uphold the integrity of the election process, but you’ll also be helping to raise critically needed funds to continue our community programming and support our annual Kwanzaa event, benefiting the artists and culture keepers who make it possible.

Be a part of something bigger—your participation matters! We are looking for 20 volunteers to work at our Orlando, FL, and Winter Park, FL polling locations. Before the election, there is a mandatory training all poll workers must attend. You must be registered to vote in Orange County. If you need volunteer hours, we will sign volunteer hour papers.

We are thrilled to announce our Second Annual Juneteenth Celebration in Winter Park, FL, "A Night Under the Stars: Jazz & Jubilee at Shady Park," on Saturday, June 15th, 2024, from 5 to 10 pm! Join us for an unforgettable evening of live jazz, delicious food, and vibrant spirits, all under the starry skies, sponsored by The City of Winter Park and The Equity Council Corp. , a Black-owned nonprofit serving Hannibal Square since 2018.

Held at the beautiful Shady Park, this summer's Juenteenth celebration promises an exhilarating night of music from top jazz musicians. Experience the magic of 5x Grammy-nominated bass player Tarus Mateen and vocalist Tamika Love Jones of Beyond Genre Music. Delight in the soulful sounds of Royale from Jacksonville, and be captivated by Orlando's own Daphne Cooper . Our featured house band, Sam Sanders and Cliché Entertainment, returns to rock the night with lead vocals by Daniel Brinson from The Daniel Music Experience, blending R&B, Soul, Pop, and Jazz for a spectacular show. Don't miss Tanita Fadyeyola with First World Drummers and Dancers during our opening ceremony, honoring our ancestors through powerful performances. DJ AjSimmons , aka Tony the "Sound Guy" of Simmons Entertainment, will set the vibe, while our distinguished hostess, Mrs. Lawanda Thompson, M.Ed., President of Equity Council Corp., will guide us through the evening.

Indulge in delectable dishes from local celebrity chef Nicholas Allman of Catered Delight and enjoy a variety of spirits at our onsite bar. Support Black-owned businesses by exploring cultural wear, custom jewelry, art, and more from our local vendors at the SOKO Marketplace .

Come, celebrate the birthday of the late great El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, formerly known as Malcolm X, as we honor him by uplifting his favorite pastime of reading. In honor of and in celebration of Malcolm X's birthday, we are giving away over $10,000.00 in books sponsored by the National Black Cultural Infomation Trust! All children and teens in attendance will receive FREE cultural and historically significant books (while supplies last) to increase home libraries during the statewide book ban in our public schools. Seating is Limited! and this is a VIP ticketed event which will include a copy of Brother Polite's new book entitled "Young Kings".

New England Ave. Winter Park, FL) for the day-long celebration of Kujichagulia and the principle of self-determination! Our celebration will include good food, drumming, dancing, musical performances by  , and a special sneak peek of Orlando Community Art's production of !

In honor of our community heroes and sheroes, we will also have a motivational panel discussion with special guest panelist Beverly Page (President & CEO of   ), Raymond Warthen (Co-Founder & President of  ), and LaVonda Wilder ( CEO  ). In addition, community leader Pamela Bussey  will moderate our riveting panel discussion about what drives, Kujichagulia, and how it impacts their work in our Central Florida community.

Also, Winter Park's very own , operating weekly in the historic African-American community of Hannibal Square, will be in full effect with   selling handmade gifts and much more this joyous   season.
