The 2024 cohort of the Wisconsin Certified Fire Investigator class began on Monday. 24 police officers and firefighters from all across Wisconsin are once again being hosted at our college. Today was the day when most of the burning takes place, including the flashover demonstrations (shown in photos). Afterwards, the class returned to campus and the burn cell scenes that they will be investigating later in class were ignited, burned, and extinguished. This class is the result of a solid partnership between the Wisconsin State Fire Marshal’s office, U.S. Alcohol, To***co, & Fi****ms, Wisconsin Attorney General’s office, Stevens Point Fire Department, Wisconsin Technical College System, and Mid-State Technical College.

Thermal Imaging Beyond the Handoff last night with the Adams County Fire District and neighboring departments was a great experience.

Unfortunately, as the instructor, you forget to take pictures while you are teaching. 🤷‍♂️ So here are a couple from before we started.

Thank you for inviting us to join you for training.

Thermal Imaging training at the Stockton Fire & EMS Department - Wisconsin yesterday evening.

Multiple thermal imagers were used and viewed to learn refresh rate, colorization, high and low sensitivity, and so many other aspects. A small burn prop was utilized to show the effects heat has on what an imager can, or can't do for us. This course follows NFPA 1408 and describes how imager the NFPA 1801 standard specifics design features. Most thermal imagers on the market are not NFPA certified. So what does that mean?

Thank you to firefighters from Stockton and Amherst for attending and broadening your knowledge.

Three of our instructors graciously gave up their weekend to learn how different nozzle types and application tactics apply water in different ways so that you can better use your hose streams for their intended purpose on the residential fireground.

Today was day one and tomorrow they and the rest of the class will teach the course to others as part of the train-the-trainer opportunity. Thank you to Brandon Hageman, Dave Briggs, and Shawn Dillingham for their sacrifices in order to bring new training back to our district, so that we can continue to educate and train central Wisconsin firefighters with the latest concepts. This course was built as a result of work done by the Fire Service Research Institute (FSRI). Thank you to Madison College for hosting this weekend.
