The Garden State Arts Foundation’s “Cousin Brucie Presents” show scheduled for Thursday, June 8, at the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel has been postponed because of poor air quality.
This show was to be hosted by legendary New York radio DJ Bruce “Cousin Brucie” Morrow and was to feature Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone; Tommy Roe; and The Soundtrack of Our Lives (featuring Deborah Rennard and Al Sapienza).
The Arts Center is an outdoor venue. Air quality in New Jersey has been degraded this week by smoke from wildfires in Canada. Due to concern for the health of concertgoers, organizers decided to postpone the show until conditions improve. It will be rescheduled soon.
The Garden State Arts Foundation has been presenting free classical, jazz, and pop shows at the PNC Arts Center on the Garden State Parkway in Holmdel since 1999.
UPDATE: The roadway has reopened in both directions. Smoke from the wildfire continues to cause reduced visibility between mileposts 48 and 52. Speed limits are reduced in that corridor.
COMMUTER ALERT: The Garden State Parkway is closed until further notice in both directions between the Atlantic City Expressway (exit 38) and NJ 72 (exit 63) because of dense fog and heavy smoke from the Bass River State Forrest wildfire

Family, friends, and colleagues gathered this week to add a star to the Wall of Honor in the Turnpike Authority headquarters building for roadway foreman Jon Proctor. Each star on the Wall represents an employee whose life was lost on the New Jersey Turnpike or Garden State Parkway.
Jon died last November as a result of injuries he sustained in a crash. He is the 16th employee to die on the Turnpike or Parkway since 1951.
"While the Wall preserves the memory of those who have given their lives in the line of duty, it also serves to remind us of the inherent dangers of the work we do every day," NJTA Chair and NJDOT Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti wrote in a letter that was read during the ceremony.
NJTA Executive Director John Keller said Jon will be remembered as "soft-spoken, gentlemanly, good-natured, reliable, and trustworthy."
"There are 16 stars on the wall," Keller said. "None will shine brighter than Jon’s."
