Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, a day that acknowledges the emancipation of the last enslaved Black people in the United States and represents a pivotal moment in our nation's history.

John Woodall, a member of our BOLD belonging group, shares what the day means to him: "Juneteenth reminds me, in the words of James Weldon Johnson, to 'Lift EVERY voice and sing, 'til Earth and Heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of Liberty.' Not just voices of color, who are the obvious recipients of the abolishment of slavery, but EVERY voice, as Juneteenth celebrates the gradual freedom of others from the enslavement of their minds against the self-evident truth that All Men and Women Are Created Equal."

As we wrap our week of celebrating , we highlight Account Manager Jamela McCray:

“Strength, Power, and Perseverance are some of the emotions that come to mind as I reflect on what Juneteenth means to me. It's a reminder of hope that we are living out our ancestors’ wildest dreams, and continuing the fight each day to be the change we wish to see. Our Black History IS American History and CANNOT be erased. It's a sense of pride for the fight our ancestors fought and remained steadfast through it all. It's a celebration of freedom and dignity we carry despite all that has been endured. It's a reminder that our voices CAN'T and WILL NOT be silenced when sharing the journey to freedom. My hope is we continue to uplift, educate, and celebrate our black culture!”

Today, we continue our celebration and hear from Melissa Bikish, a National Account Director:

“It's a day to celebrate Black joy and our capacity to love ourselves and each other through all that we have endured. That in spite of the trauma; we're here, we're resilient, we've reimagined our culture, and are truly the answered prayers of so many before us. I love Juneteenth because its purpose is to uplift our community, to love being Black, and to love on each other and celebrate togetherness and freedom.”

We're proud to have been part of this Denver Nuggets championship journey, creating memories with every piece of merch to make sure Nuggets Nation celebrated this historic title in style!

In today’s employee highlight, we hear from Joe Foulks, a Sr. Client Services Coordinator from Charlotte:

“A celebration of the freedom of my ancestors. June 19th, 1865, the date that began the journey of blacks in America towards freedom and fulfillment of our dreams. Juneteenth gives me a sense of pride and strength to know how resilient and determined my ancestors really were that under all the conditions they faced, they continued to push forward to accomplish great things. I’m encouraged by my ancestors to continue to push, continue to dream, continue, and achieve. Juneteenth brings a sense of pride, determination, and excitement not only from what we’ve been through, but where we’re headed.”

As we continue to highlight our employee experience surrounding , we hear from Ciji White, a fulfillment supervisor in our Indianapolis office:

“To me, Juneteenth is a time to celebrate all the trials and tribulations that we as a people have had to overcome and endure. It is a time to reflect on the strength of my ancestors and reminds me to keep hope alive. Juneteenth symbolizes strength to me and fills me with pride.”

As we continue our celebration, members of our BOLD (Black Originators Leaders & Doers) employee belonging group share what the holiday means to them personally. Today we highlight Melissa Marable, an Account Manager in our Atlanta office.

“Juneteenth marks the end of 400 years of slavery and the beginning of a new journey for equality. One of the first steps on this new journey was education. The first HBCU (historically black college and university) was founded in the south on September 19, 1865 – exactly 3 months after the slaves in Galveston, TX learned that slavery had ended on June 19, 1865. Growing up in the south, I did not learn about African American history in elementary or high school. I initially learned about Juneteenth while attending my HBCU, Fort Valley State University located in Fort Valley, GA. The celebration of Juneteenth is important to me because it gives all Americans an equal opportunity to learn about a part of history that may not have been taught in school. It initiates conversations and gives us an opportunity to learn more about one another and our life experiences. I am excited to see BDA welcoming more of these conversations through sponsorships such as HBCU First and newly established belonging groups. The national recognition of Juneteenth is another step in the direction of equality and acceptance.”

Today, we honor and remember , a pivotal moment in our nation’s history.
