From our family to yours-may your 2024 be a bright one filled with hope, love, and good books!!

Learning to read is hard work, but once all of the components of reading are in place…and you listen and watch your emergent reader read… you realize just how magical those moments are!! You see in your young reader that sparkle in his eyes, the huge grin upon his face as he reads his first word, phrase, or sentence!
Be a part of the process by sharing your love of the printed word over these next days of Winter/Christmas break. I’m sure you’ve read many instructions on how to put a new toy together (those Lego sets don’t build themselves). Before playing that new game you’ve needed to read the rules. I bet you’ll be following a recipe for some New Year’s appetizers. Take any and all opportunities to share your reading with your children!! Children look to the adults in their lives as role models… you set the mark… ready, set, Read!!

Santa’s elves have been very busy these last couple of weeks…prepping for our December and January book distributions. Our sixth year providing books at Weatherbee Elementary in FL. This was before Riley’s Readers was created…you might say that it was the birth of an idea created to help us bring some light during a very dark time in our lives. And so we turned to what Kaitlin had already started…she volunteered at Weatherbee while she was stationed in Fort Pierce. Reading was one of her passions, so we tried to create a way to bring honor to both Kaitlin and Riley by providing books to the children she worked with.
Lots of creative, thoughtful, kind, and thankful children here!! (Grades Kdg-2)

From our family to our followers and supporters on this special day:

Wondering about the 5 early literacy practices?? Here they are according to the National Library Association.

11/16/2023

Wondering how many of our followers learned something new or helpful from the early literacy video? What was it? Any comments or questions?
Just to clarify… we at Riley’s Readers are not promoting early literacy as a means of creating early readers. Our mission is to inspire a love of reading within each child so they in turn will have a stronger grasp of reading, writing, and vocabulary development. Why is this important?? Let us hear your thoughts and questions. Thank you!!

Of course you understand how important reading is to all of us at Riley’s Readers… so here’s a fact that ties into this day which is set aside to honor all of our American Veterans… during
WWI the War Department and the American Library Association generated $5 million (approximately $112 million in today’s dollars) for books and resources for our soldiers’ libraries in Europe. Here’s a historical fiction novel that you may enjoy reading.
