Township Day was last week, but for us it is every day!
We are proud to be Sharon Township.
We’re helping to bring water and sewer service to parts of our community that have never had it! Did you know the commissioners operate a water and sewer system with three treatment plants, 21 pump stations, and more than 220 miles of main lines serving residents in more than 30 different service areas around the county? This month, the Sanitary Engineering team held a public meeting with more than 50 residents to discuss expanding sewer service in the Kanawha Rosslyn area. Learn more here.
The Kanawha-Rosslyn Sewer Project Public Meeting is scheduled at the Sharon Township Hall on December 12 from 6-7pm. Please pass the word for any affected neighbors.
Franklin County Department of Sanitary Engineering is holding this meeting and will be reaching out to residents about it.
Please note- change in the Oct 4 meeting-
Instead of our trustee meeting, Worthington Fire will host an educational open house session at their facility for residents of Sharon Township.
The Worthington Fire Department has graciously agreed to host an open house at the fire station so residents can learn more about what the fire department does for the Township, and to answer any questions the residents may have about the Fire Department.
* Please join us on October 4th at 6:30PM at 6500 N. High St. in Worthington for a great discussion, presentation, and open house.
The Board of Trustees did publicly vote to place a fire levy on the November 7, 2023 Ballot after over a year of public discussion and input. The Board of Trustees was required to put a levy on the ballot pursuant to the existing fire contract which was recently amended after negotiations with the City of Worthington.
The levy, if passed, would raise an annual amount of $500,000, and specifically would add 4.06 mills in additional taxes, or approximately $142.00 for each $100,000 of the county auditor's current appraised value. Note the county auditor's current proposed valuations of our homes will not be used as the valuations for the November fire levy.
This communication, and the fire department open house, is not intended to seek support or opposition for the fire levy and both are for informational purposes only.
It is important we provide you with any fact specific questions about the levy, the services you receive, and we are available to do so.
We hope to see many of you there.

UPDATE: Sharon Township and Worthington Reach Agreement on Joint Fire District Levy
The Sharon Township Board of Trustees concluded its negotiations with the City of Worthington regarding the City's request for an increase in the funds provided by the Township for the operation of the Joint Fire District. In late 2022, the City sent a request to the Township for an increase to $1,010,000 per year. The City made the request under an agreement entered in 1993 for the operation of a joint fire district.
The Township currently pays to the City approximately $164,000 per year for fire and EMS services under a property tax levy that has remained unchanged for 30 years.
The Township and the City agreed to enter negotiations, and after several months of meetings, reached an agreement on the request of Township residents. Under the agreement, the Township will place a levy on the November 2023 ballot to raise the annual amount to $500,000. In three to five years, the Township will go back to residents for an additional, scaled increase.
The Township will have information sessions for residents in the upcoming months to provide additional details.

Summary of City Request:
“Sharon Township and Worthington have a long history of very high quality and professional fire and emergency medical services. The high standard was set when Sharon Township operated the service, and the City has worked hard to maintain and enhance the service quality.
In 1993, the City of Worthington and Sharon Township entered into a Joint Agreement to transfer the provision of fire and emergency medical services from the Township to the City. The City and Township also approved a Contract for Fire and Emergency Medical Services, effective January 1, 1994, that details the provision of the service.
As determined in the Joint Agreement and the Contract, the Township pays for fire and EMS services provided by the City through the Township Fire District, which includes the entire unincorporated area of the Township and the Village of Riverlea. The Contract for Fire and Emergency Medical Services describes the payment for services and details the process for increasing the amount paid by the Township. Pursuant to the Contract, the City of Worthington is seeking an increase to the amount of $1,010,000.”
As a point of reference, approximately $143,750 is collected currently under the current fire levy
