✨Let’s talk about your six week clearance✨
At about 6 weeks postpartum you are cleared by your provider to return to exercise and all other previous activities
BUT six weeks does not cure your pelvic floor, it’s important to seek a pelvic floor physical therapist to guide you in the recovery in order to get back to the activities you love without fear, leakage, or pain.
Comment “ME” below if the six week visit clearance overwhelmed you
Happy First Monday of the New Year
This calls for an intro post.. welcome to anyone that is new to this page.
I’m Dr. Youstina Gerges, DPT, a pelvic floor physical and Lamaze childbirth educator. I am passionate about raising awareness around pelvic health and getting rid of commonly believed myths. And most importantly helping you regain confidence while doing the activities you love without pain or embarrassment.
I am the founder of Rise Above Physical therapy located in Wyckoff, NJ offering orthopedic and pelvic floor therapy for women and men. As well as offering childbirth classes to help you in every step from preconception to the fourth trimester.
Happy New year to you and your family!
I personally love this time of the year because it allows for reflection on my personal life, professional life, and goal setting for the new year. Each year I pick a word to practice that applies to different aspects of my life.
My word this year is health, I want to develop more healthy habits and find new ways to provide healthy choices for my patients.
What’s your word for 2022?

Pelvic health is more than just external or internal treatment to the pelvic floor muscles. It requires a whole body approach in order for you to not only improve your pelvic health but also your overall health.
You are a whole person and your treatment should reflect that. It should not be only one body part focused

How is it treated?
Treatment for DR is mainly going to first focus on control of intra abdominal pressure :
➡️Proper core strengthening
➡️Rib cage mobility
➡️Diaphragmatic breathing
➡️Posture
➡️Reduction of intra abdominal pressure with functional/ everyday movement
➡️Reducing rotation movement in the early stages that will cause excessive load on the abdominals
➡️Bowel habit ( constipation can negatively effect DR)
We are here to help you throughout all stages of life.

A cesarean section is major abdominal surgery and requires time to heal. Like any other surgery for a knee replacement, hip replacement, or disc herniation physical therapy always follows to help in restoring strength. Same is true for a C-section recovery, you need a Pelvic PT on your care team to help you in recovering !
Here are tips for the Postpartum after a C-Section:
✔️ Find grace! your body went through many changes in the past 9 months and it needs time to heal. Love your body and take the healing process one day at a time.
✔️ In the first few weeks diaphragmatic breathing and ribcage mobility are great to learn
✔️ Brace with you hand the C- section scar with position changes
✔️ Once your scar has healed, don't be afraid of movement. Loading the tissue when appropriate leads to strength, but loading too early may disrupt the healing process
✔️ Get a Pelvic Floor assessment, you may not have birthed va**nally but the tissue that was cut connects directly to your PF.
✔️ Once you have healed, learn scar mobilization and scar desensitization from a Pelvic PT to help with visceral mobility and scar sensitivity/ numbness.
Do you have trouble with emptying your bowels?
Have you developed hemorrhoids from straining?
Try these tips to stimulate your bowels:
➡️ Coffee! Even Decaf can help!
➡️ Go for a jog or walk
➡️ Eat breakfast with fiber
➡️ Diaphragmatic breathing
➡️ Stretch to open up Pelvic floor and hips
➡️ Do squats
➡️ Stay hydrated
➡️ Learn Colonic massage from your local Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist

Five functions of the Pelvic Floor continued....
⭐Support is a huge and important function of the pelvic floor. It holds the bladder, re**um, and uterus against gravity. It also supports babies, internal organs, bowel and bladder function, and has connections to the core and back.
Stay tuned for the final Pelvic Floor function coming tomorrow!!
❓Can you guess what it is? *hint: it starts with an "S"❔
Final Function of the Pelvic Floor series!
💋The pelvic floor helps to allow for sexual in*******se as well as contraction for or***ms. The contraction and relaxation of these muscles allows for an or**sm to occur.
Make sure you don't ignore the signs of possible pelvic floor dysfunction. If any of these functions are causing you pain, irritation, or any type of discomfort.
📞Call us today to help find the underlying cause of your symptoms!
🌟Some of the pelvic floor muscles around the urethra, va**na, and re**al regions are sphincteric. These muscles control the opening to the bladder and the re**um.
💦It prevents leakage when it is contracted and releases urine or a bowel movement when it relaxes!
Stay tuned for more pelvic floor functions !
