Balancing our pumpkins—Pumpkins were so much harder to work with than bean bags, as we tried to balance them on our heads, shoulders, knees, back, feet and more! But we all kept trying, and this super star rocked this balance! Giggle and Grow Preschool and Early Learning Center

We do a lot of jumping in dance class! Today, we focused on jumping over the pumpkins with our feet “together.” It seems simple, but for these little ones, it’s asking a lot!
🎃 It means they have to have a perceptual understanding (they saw and understood)- we can tell if they understood it, even if the ex*****on falls short because they will jump, and then close the feet between jumps!
🎃 It’s also demanding two feet landing at the same time, which can be a developing skill for this age group.
🎃 And it’s working on the concept of “over.” Prepositions are tricky for kids older than this guy—so we work on a variety of combinations to expose these little ones to these important concepts! (As a side note, we learned today, that if you land “on” the pumpkin, it busts open with reckless abandon!—no worries, though—that moment allowed us to sneak in an extra lesson I hadn’t planned on: it’s ok to make mistakes, and if you make one, you can just try again! 😉)

Having fun at First Class Learning Center!

This little froggy has the biggest hops and the biggest smile! 🐸

When we practice our frog jumps, we only jump when Miss Joyce counts to “3.” This way, we are working on patience, following directions, and improving our listening skills in addition to the gross motor skills we use for the actual jump, like hip and ankle flexibility, explosive movements, balancing the squat, and landing the jump with two feet!
