Our 'Wednesday Wisdom' series is back again as we focus on text scams! π² Text scams are becoming more and more common and senior citizens are often the targets.
Here are some tips to help you avoid texting scams:
π±Fraudulent texts often come from fake numbers, so if the sender's number is unfamiliar or doesn't match the company or organization it claims to be from, it's likely a scam.
π±Don't click links! If a text contains a suspicious link, don't click on it or follow any prompts.
π±Don't respond to unrecognized texts! Don't respond to texts from numbers you don't recognize, even if the message asks you to "text STOP".
π±Don't share personal information. Genuine financial organizations, like your bank, won't ask for personal details like your address, pin number, or banking details via text.
π±Verify bank alerts! If you receive a text alert about a suspicious transaction from your bank, verify that the message is legitimate before replying, clicking links, or calling any phone numbers.
π±Delete and block suspicious texts.
π±Update your software. Make sure your device's operating system and security apps are updated to the latest version. You can also consider installing anti-malware software.
If you've been the target of a spoofing scam, you can file a complaint with the FCC online or by calling 1-888-CALL-FCC. You can also report spam texts to your carrier.

Jill has a classic dessert recipe to share with everyone for the upcoming 4th of July holiday! πΊπΈ
Jill grew up enjoying this recipe which was created by her Mom's grandparents! This recipe has been passed down for years and Jill and her family won't eat strawberry shortcake any other way! π
Without further ado...Jill's Patriotic Dessert For All:
1 Β½ cups Crisco shortening
3 cups flour
1 egg
1 tsp vinegar
5 Tablespoons ice cold water
Cut shortening into the flour until a pebble texture. Put an egg into a bowl. Whisk, with a fork and add vinegar and water.
Put egg mixture into the shortening mixture and mix until well blended.
Chill for at least an hour.
After chilled, divide into 2 or 3 parts and roll each part out the thickness that you would roll out for a pie. Put these pieces onto a cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees until they are browned. Let cool and store in an airtight container.
Put some pie crust pieces into your bowl and top with crushed up strawberries. Top with whipped cream! π°
The Leaves team wishes you and your family a fun and safe 4th of July holiday! God Bless America! π½
