Now, 80+ years later, our love of hops and passion for craft beer has led us to where we are today – running a craft brewery surrounded by our family’s hop fields, just minutes from where we were born and

POV: YOU JUST FOUND OUR BEER IN COLORADO!

Summer in the Rockies is already a dream, but it just got better: our beers are now available for purchase for a limited time only at select locations in Colorado, while supplies last! Colorado has a rad craft beer scene already, so we know we’re in good company. But what do we have to offer that Coloradans can’t get already? Our beer comes straight from our hop farm - we’re the only brewery located smack dab in the middle of a hop farm. In fact, a lot of these Colorado breweries that you know and love use OUR hops in their beers! We’re as fresh off the farm as it can get - and trust us, as 4th generation hop farmers, we know how to use these hops pretty dang well. It’s in our DNA!

Introducing La Mas Buena Mexican Lager - Releasing Wednesday, July 3rd at both taprooms!

A longtime taproom favorite, La Mas Buena was named as a nod to the many local Spanish-speaking customers at our Yakima taproom repeatedly asking for “la mas buena?” at the bar. Translation: “The best one.” Rising to the occasion, we decided to create an authentic, crisp, easy-drinking Mexican Lager that is made for enjoying in the sunshine. Brewed as a true Mexican Lager with flaked corn and Pilsner malt, and clocking in at just 5% ABV. It’s crisp and crushable - making it the perfect beer for any summer occasion!

La Mas Buena will be available on draft and in 16oz 4-packs at both taprooms on Wednesday, July 3rd (just in time for the holiday weekend!), and will receive full distribution throughout Washington, Oregon and Idaho that same week.

Ales for ALS was inspired by Scott “Bubba” Hanses - Bale Breaker co-owners Meghann and Smitty’s beloved uncle - after he was tragically diagnosed with ALS. Founded in 2013 right here on our family’s hop farm, Ales for ALS has raised over $7 million for ALS Therapy Development Institute to research treatments and a cure for ALS. Ales for ALS is more than a one-day event: every year, Loftus Ranches & Yakima Chief Hops donate a unique blend of primarily experimental hops to breweries across the nation, with the ask being a donation to ALS TDI of at least $1 per pint brewed.

Ales For ALS is extremely near and dear to our hearts - we lost Bubba in 2020 after his long battle with ALS. This is why the two Ales for ALS beers we’re releasing this year are named Bubba’s Brew and Scotty’s Hoppy Lager - we hope you raise a pint in his honor.

$1 per pint of EVERY beer poured Saturday will be donated to ALS-TDI. We are so excited to see everyone out here on Saturday!

If you can’t make it out on Saturday but still want to support, please go to https://www.als.net/donate/ or follow the link in our bio to donate now. Together, we’re making progress, pint by pint.

Throwback to Ales for ALS, circa 2015! We can’t believe we’re coming up on another year of celebrating great beer for a great cause, together. We (alongside and ) started Ales for ALS in 2013 to raise money to find treatments or a cure for ALS, after more of our family had recently been diagnosed with the disease. We had no idea it would become a huge event here in Yakima AND a worldwide fundraiser that spreads awareness and raises funds for ALS research. We could not be more grateful to be a part of it and could not be more stoked to do it all again NEXT SATURDAY, JUNE 15TH at our Yakima taproom 12-9pm 🍻

05/28/2024

Join us for an IMPROMPTU party TOMORROW, at our Yakima taproom! Farm-to-fridge

Bale Breaker Brewing Company was founded in 2013 in Moxee, WA, but our story starts back in 1932, when our great-grandparents planted our family’s first five-acre hop field in the Yakima Valley. Now, over 80 years later, our love of hops and passion for craft beer has led us to where we are today–the fourth largest independent craft brewery in Washington State. And we’re in a state-of-the-art 30,000 square foot facility surrounded by our family’s hop fields, just minutes from where we were born and raised.

Four generations of hop farming knowledge takes a special kind of grit. It's more than empty words or another catchy phrase; it's decades and decades of generational knowledge that got passed down from our great-grandmother Leota Mae to her grandson, our dad, Mike Smith, and now to his son, our brother, Patrick Smith at Loftus Ranches.

We know and love hops so much, we often say they are part of our DNA. Aromatics are our specialty–we're always trying to replicate those nostalgic smells of hop harvest from our childhoods. Our farm even takes the time to focus on breeding hop varieties for the craft beer industry, so changes in the industry happen right down the road from us here in Hop Country, USA.

When some other big beer brands try to tell you they care about and know beer ingredients like we do, just know they're taking some creative liberties and inspiration from the real industry game-changers. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
