WILDFIRE COMPLEX - NORTH CASCADES (WA): a wildfire complex has been established including numerous fires in the North Cascades areas of Whatcom and Snohomish County. The “Kid Fire”, located on the ridge between Rock Creek and West Fork Pasayten, is approximately 8 miles south of the Canadian-U.S. border. The fire has been very active with spotting and torching of grouped trees. The “Parks Fire” is also very active. It crossed the border into Canada a couple of days ago. There is a Canadian Incident Management Team assigned to the Canadian portion (called the Heather Fire north of the border) of the Parks Fire. The fire is about one half mile from the Monument 83 Fire Lookout at the time of this release. Firefighters have prepared the lookout by wrapping the base with fire protective wrap. The “Skagit Fire”, located in Freezeout Creek 6 miles south of the border, spread northward and crossed over the top of the ridge and down the other side. The “Three Fools Fire”, located 8 miles south of the border, is actively backing down the ridge and through an old burn scar, it has spotted north of the ridge. The “Elbow Fire”, located 6 miles south of the border, is actively backing down the slope near Skagit Peak. The “Shull Fire” located 11 miles south of the border, and was active yesterday. NIMO team 2 has taken command of the “Paysaten Complex” east of Ross Lake and the “Chilliwack Complex” west of Ross Lake.
FIRE WEATHER - WEST COAST: While the post share is aimed at California, the condition projected September heat wave impacts much of the west including Washington State. Hoping this doesn't come to fruition.
From Tuesday evening into Wednesday we saw 5,473 strikes run across Oregon & many parts of Washington.
--Oregon: 5,223 strikes
--Washington: 250 strikes
We have no room for human-caused fires as we deal with all of these lightning strikes. Please be extra responsible with anything that can cause a spark.
Between Tuesday and early this morning, there were over 5,200 lightning strikes across Oregon, and 250 in Washington. That’s a lot of lightning over dry terrain.
Ample 🌩 lightning and above average 🌡temperatures over the last several days has directly translated into 8 active large 🔥fires out there -- 3 in Washington and 5 in Oregon.
This new 🗺 shows the exact location of the active and uncontained large fires, as of August 4, 2022.

On Saturday, July 16, 2022, a Bernalillo County Sheriffs Office helicopter was returning to Bernalillo after assisting with firefighting efforts in northern New Mexico when it unexpectedly crashed. Tragically, the crash killed all those on board: Undersheriff Larry Koren, Lieutenant Fred Beers, and Deputy Michael Levison of the Bernalillo County Sheriffs Office, as well as Rescue Specialist Matthew King of the Bernalillo County Fire Department. Each of those lost will leave a devastating hole in the lives of countless family members, friends, and colleagues at the Bernalillo County Sheriffs Office and Fire Department. Their bravery and public dedication will not be forgotten.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Michelle Lujan Grisham, Governor of the State of New Mexico, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of New Mexico, do hereby ORDER and DIRECT that all New Mexico and United States flags be flown at halfstaff beginning July 18, 2022, and lasting through sundown of July 22, 2022. This action will serve to commemorate the lives of Undersheriff Larry Koren, Lieutenant Fred Beers, Deputy Michael Levison and Rescue Specialist Matthew King, and to mourn their loss.
Thunderstorms are expected in parts of the Inland NW Sunday night and Monday.
