The love for the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is a significant pillar of the religion. In fact, the faith of a servant of God is contingent upon having this love. A Muslim cannot be counted among the successful believers until the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is dearer to them than their own selves, their children, parents, and all of humanity. Allah, the Almighty, says in the Quran:

"Say, [O Muhammad],
قل إن كان آباؤكم وأبناؤكم وإخوانكم وأزواجكم وعشيرتكم وأموال اقترفتموها وتجارة تخشون كسادها ومساكن ترضونها أحب إليكم من الله ورسوله وجهاد في سبيله فتربصوا حتى يأتي الله بأمره والله لا يهدي القوم الفاسقين .'" (Quran, Surah At-Tawbah 9:24)

In Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, it is narrated from Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said, "None of you truly believes until I am dearer to him than his father, his children, and all of humanity."

Although this love is an internal act of the heart, its effects and manifestations must manifest in a person's limbs, behavior, and actions. Love has its signs and indications that distinguish a sincere lover from a false claimant. It also distinguishes those who follow the right path in expressing this love from those who deviate in their expression of it.

O Muslims: Reflecting upon the creation of Allah and what He has entrusted in the vast universe of exquisite craftsmanship, beauty of creation, and perfection is among the qualities of the mindful and remembering believers. Their hearts are illuminated by the light of the clear Quran, and their minds are expanded with the meanings of truth, faith, and certainty. Allah has drawn attention and directed sight towards the matter of contemplation and reflection due to its profound impact on increasing faith, strengthening certainty, and attaining the highest level of excellence.

He says in the decisive verses:
"الَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَى جُنُوبِهِمْ وَيَتَفَكَّرُونَ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَذَا بَاطِلًا سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ.'" (Quran 3:191)

Allah has warned those whose feelings have become numb and whose faith has weakened to the extent that the beauty of creation no longer captivates them and the sights and sounds of creation no longer catch their attention. They have been marked with hardness of heart, dominated by negligence, and are heedless of the consequences at the last moment.
Allah says, "سَأَصْرِفُ عَنْ آيَاتِيَ الَّذِينَ يَتَكَبَّرُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ الْحَقِّ وَإِنْ يَرَوْا كُلَّ آيَةٍ لَا يُؤْمِنُوا بِهَا وَإِنْ يَرَوْا سَبِيلَ الرُّشْدِ لَا يَتَّخِذُوهُ سَبِيلًا وَإِنْ يَرَوْا سَبِيلَ الْغَيِّ يَتَّخِذُوهُ سَبِيلًا ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا وَكَانُوا عَنْهَا غَافِلِينَ." (Quran 7:146)

Striving against one's desires and abandoning temptations is among the acts of worship beloved to Allah, the Most High. The scholar Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

"They wrote to 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, asking him about this matter: Which is better, a man who has no desire for temptations and it never crosses his mind, or a man whose soul incites him towards them but he abandons them for the sake of Allah?

'Umar wrote in response:
Verily, the one whose soul desires sinful acts and he abandons them for the sake of Allah, the Almighty, is among those whom Allah has tested their hearts for piety. For them, there is forgiveness and immense reward...
Just as the one who is inclined towards temptations and sins, whenever they come to him, he turns away from them towards their opposite, his love for their opposite increases, and his desire and pursuit of it intensify.
Allah, the Most High, never tests His believing servant with the love of temptations and sins and the inclination of his soul towards them except to guide him through them towards a love that is better, superior, more beneficial, and everlasting. He should strive against his soul in abandoning them for the sake of Allah, and through this struggle, he will attain the beloved Supreme Being.
So, whenever his soul incites him towards those desires and his willpower and longing for them intensify, he redirects that longing, willpower, and love towards the lofty and everlasting type. His pursuit of it becomes more fervent, and his eagerness for it becomes stronger.
In contrast, the soul that is cold and devoid of such qualities, although it seeks the higher state, there is a vast difference between the two pursuits. Do you not see that the one who walks towards his beloved over coals and thorns is greater than the one who approaches him riding on smooth paths?
For the one who prefers his beloved while struggling against his own soul is not like the one who prefers him without any struggle. Indeed, Allah tests His servant with temptations, either as a veil to protect him from it or as a means to lead him to His pleasure, closeness, and honor."

This is an excerpt from the book "Al-Fawaid" by Ibn al-Qayyim.

To complete one's reliance on Allah and seek His help, one must understand the high status of reliance in the religion. Religion consists of two halves: reliance and seeking help, and worship and repentance. Allah has combined them in some places in His book. Ibn al-Qayyim said, "Reliance is half of religion, and the other half is repentance, for religion is a combination of seeking help and worship. Reliance is seeking help, and repentance is worship." Therefore, Allah has commanded His servants to say in every rak'ah of their prayers: "You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help."

One way to achieve reliance and seeking Allah's help is for a servant to know that Allah is watching over them, hearing and seeing everything they do, as mentioned in the Quran: "وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى الْعَزِيزِ الرَّحِيمِ الَّذِي يَرَاكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ وَتَقَلُّبَكَ فِي السَّاجِدِينَ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ " (Surah Ash-Shu'araa', 26: 217-220).

Ibn al-Qayyim said, "A servant can only rely on Allah if they know that Allah knows and sees everything about them." Another way to achieve reliance on Allah is to invoke His names and attributes and to know that He is Almighty, capable of everything, and that He is rich and merciful. He is more merciful to His servant than a mother to her child. His wealth, power, and mercy demand that He brings all good to His servant and protects them from all harm. A servant should know that every crisis in their life is in Allah's hands, and none of His creation can benefit or harm themselves, let alone others. Thus, a servant who understands these concepts will have a stronger reliance on Allah and will seek His help with full conviction and certainty.
