How It All Began...

Big Jim’s Seafood House all started with the purchase of a fresh seafood market by the name of Acworth’s years ago, by a family with a love of Maryland style seafood. Steamed crabs seasoned with the original Waterman’s recipe became our trademark... and from there we continued to grow. We added a pub to the location next to the market which we called Barracudas, because well... a cold beer and steamed crabs are like matrimonial bliss. Then came our jumbo lump crab cake. Perfectly seasoned with zero filler and so popular they had to be made fresh everyday! After the success we had with the market and pub, we decided to add a dining room to bring families together and enjoy our expanded menu of fresh seafood dishes... this became Big Jim’s Seafood Restaurant, named after the man behind the scenes of its existence. Now, here is where you scratch your head and say, wait a minute, how did Acworth Seafood Market, Barracudas Seafood Pub, and Big Jim’s Seafood Restaurant become Big Jim’s Seafood House?? Well just when things started getting good, they fell apart and in February of 2017 we suffered a fire in our pub that devastated us like nothing else, and while this tragedy at that very moment seemed impossible to bounce back from, and easier to throw in the towel then to start over, Big Jim was not willing to give up, and neither were those that worked for him. In the weeks and months that followed they all pulled together and dedicated themselves to rebuilding the place they all loved and had become a part of, the place that was not just a restuarant or pub to them, rather a second home... a place where we knew the names of all our customers, a place where we could have the favorite beverage of a regular patron on the bar before they took a seat... and this place, or these three places shall we say, became Big Jim’s Seafood House. A place where after ten long months of hard work, REALLY hard work... Ten long months of blood, sweat and tears... Seriously. Ten long months of what seemed like every possible roadblock you could encounter, every obstacle, multiple returns to the drawing board and code upgrades we finally were able to re-open. We built our new pub, revamped our market and put our dining room back together with the hopes of creating a once again friendly, comfortable environment for friends and family to gather and enjoy fresh seafood meal, a fresh cut steak or a juicy chargrilled burger. A place where our customers could chat over a cold craft beer, glass of wine or cocktail. Catch a favorite football, baseball, or hockey game and occasionally listen to a mellow acoustic dity that won’t leave your head pounding the next day. We have created a delicious variety of fresh seafood dishes and daily/weekly food specials that you won’t find anywhere else in York County. We have learned through trial and error that changing the direction of the business has many curveballs, is not always easy and it is a practice that will take time and patience, but... with an awesome customer base and the great feedback we get from those customers, a dedicated staff, determination and drive these obstacles do not define us... Overcoming those obstacles do! We are now referred to by the new faces we see daily as “ a hidden gem”, but as the word gets out we know we wont stay hidden for long :) !!
