Persnickety Crane Cafe & Serene Bee Bakery tagged up to sponsor a Leadership Conference yesterday for local public servants and entrepreneurs. So fun!
-
We served up bottled matcha latte, a variety of coffee, poppyseed muffins, carrot cake squares, bagels, energy bites and more.
-
Several of our cafe leaders attended the conference as part of their professional development.
-
We learned principles of leading well like analyzing extreme positives in an organization, helping connect people with what they love, creating experiences for staff and customers, and leveraging failures for growth and positive change.
-
It was a wonderful day of investing in our cafe leaders, stretching ourselves in something new and chatting up local police, teachers, and leaders as we hung out by the Persnickety mobile “water cooler”.

Fun fact - The staff have begun growing our own green onions. It’s become a hobby of our Sous Chefs.

Evie is prepping green onions to go into our Quiche Lorraine. She joined our team 6 months ago and has been learning all the ins and outs of cuisine, persnickety style.

Now she’s jumping over to participate in the bakery side too!

It’s a joy to have young people join Persnickety Crane Cafe, particularly as a first job, and then watch them grow, learn, and develop skills while making friends and serving the 757 Persnickety fans.

Behind the Scenes Post.

Cecilia (Owner) and Ethan (Assistant Director) work together to streamline processes (like inventory), prioritize initiatives (like soup & sandwich specials), and brainstorm ways to develop the staff (with training, performance reviews, team building and more).

Persnickety is kind of like an iceberg in that what the customer sees is a fraction of what’s there. Ethan, Cecilia and the whole team work hard in the background to identity improvement areas, surge to pop up needs, organize, clean and so much more.

There are hundreds of tasks and thousands of items being considered, juggled, counted, and addressed in any given month. Never a dull moment behind the scenes at Persnickety.

A kid-friendly coffee shop? Yup, that’s us.

In February we launched a series of behind-the-scenes (BTS) photos and videos intended to help you connect with us and vice versa.

If you’ve been following us in February, you got a glimpse of our staff laughing and enjoying each other’s company over pastries. It’s true. We like each other and have a good time. Oh and we love the bakery treats!

You’ve virtually met Junior, our cafe Barista Barbie, and been invited in to see some of the shenanigans our team members initiate, to keep things interesting.

Our senior baker, April, wanted you all to be all set for Valentine’s Day confections so she’s whipped up these chocolate dipped berry macrons, and a few truffle varieties to enjoy.

The team has a great time relocating “Junior” - aka “Barista Barbie” around the cafe.
-
He has been tatted up to resemble our Lead Barista, Isaiah. And thus, Junior keeps an eye on things when Isaiah is out of the coffee shop.
-
You might see Junior repelling from a driftwood sculpture, scaling a planter, or comfortably chilling atop the brewer.
-
Whatever the position, he’ll be decked out in the latest fashions. The ladies in the cafe have sewn him sock sweaters and knit scarves… it’s taken on quite a life of its own.
-
No matter the clothing or location of Junior, you can be sure Isaiah will be looking on with his general disapproving, but somewhat interested, facial expression.
