Marla Bay Lake Tahoe, with it’s private lakefront beach, is a small gem of a community with approximately 108 homes. This delightful blend of historic cabins and modern architecture falls pretty much under the radar in the Douglas County Tahoe area. In fact, it is literally almost out-of-sight below Zephyr Heights & Highway 50, adjacent to Pinewild to the south, and Zephyr Cove to the north. Histo
rically, the area was purchased by John Marley, a native Englishman, in 1864, and was later named for a shortened version of his name. This neighborhood is great for those who enjoy an active lifestyle, as most have all they want within walking distance, including a couple restaurants across the highway at the bottom of Zephyr Heights. A slow (by law) ride through the few streets of Marla Bay may reveal the closeness of these residents taking their daily walks in neighborly groups. Even though, the area has a lot of pines and offers seclusion and privacy, there are plenty of open areas where the views of Lake Tahoe and the western Sierra mountains can be breathtaking. In fact, several of the residents with homes on the water, actually own the beach in front of them! About 2 minutes south on Hwy 50 is the Round Hill Shopping Center, restaurants, post office, a gas station and Fire Station. Another 2 minutes south is the Kingsbury Grade area, which includes numerous businesses, restaurants, the Lakeview Inn & Casino, Wells Fargo Bank, &UPS to name a few. Travel to the top of Kingsbury Grade (SR207) for superb skiing at the Nevada side of Heavenly Mountain Ski Resort (managed by Vail Resorts) with the Stagecoach & Boulder Lodges and ski lifts. Another three minutes south on Hwy 50 brings one to Tahoe’s top Casino/Hotels, first-class entertainment, ski lifts, a gondola to exhilarating views of Lake Tahoe, ice-skating, the spectacular Edgewood Golf Course and many restaurants. Marla Bay Lake Tahoe homes are within 2 minutes north of Zephyr Heights/Knolls is the historical Zephyr Cove Resort RV & Campground, with many kinds of water activities plus the Tahoe Queen Stern-wheeler and Woodwind catamaran for tours of the Lake. Just beyond that are the areas’ elementary, middle and high schools. Within a 40 minute drive north and east over Lake Spooner Pass to Nevada’s Capitol, Carson City are major malls with Costco, Walmart, Trader Joe’s, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Home Depot, Staples, World Market, numerous restaurants, the Galaxy digital/3D Theaters, and much more.
