Zion Park District Commissioner Bill Hartmann resigned in May after 13 years of service on the park board. He relocated out of state. We thank him for his contribution and wish him all the best.
At the May Park Board meeting, the Zion Park District Board appointed Doug Carlson to fill the vacant position. Park Board Commissioners serve six-year terms. Carlson is completing the remaining one year on Hartmann's existing term, which concludes in April 2025.
Doug Carlson, a Zion resident for over 20 years, has a heart for the City. He is passionate about making a lasting difference in the Zion community where famililes live, work and raise their children. Doug is excited to serve on the Park Board to learn about the park districtโs operations and services and help support the districtโs mission and the community.
Park Board meetings are held at the Zion Park District Leisure Center on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm.
Congratulations, Zion-Benton D126 Class of 2024! Embrace life with passion, and keep reaching for the stars.โจ๏ธ
In observance of Memorial Day, the Park District facilities will be closed on Monday, May 27.
All are invited to attend the annual Memorial Day Service presented by American Legion Zion Benton Post 865. The ceremony is open to the public and typically runs from 10am to noon. The Lakes Area Swing Band is honored to provide some accompanying music plus military fight songs before and after the very moving ceremony.
Construction has begun on David Park! The David Park master plan includes an inclusive playground, a new skate park, new basketball courts and soccer fields, plus a full walking loop. A timeline for the project will be released when available.
Zion Park District was named as a recipient of an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Grant in the amount of $600,000 to be used for improvements at David Park. The $600,000 grant received is the maximum amount awarded by OSLAD and requires the Park District to match the grant amount received.
The Zion Park District is proud to have secured OSLAD funding the past two years, bringing in one million dollars of state funding to the Zion community. By consistently seeking external revenue sources, the Zion Park District continues to be a responsible steward of taxpayer funds to manage and maintain parks, facilities, and open spaces for the enjoyment of Zion residents.
Register today! Only a few more spots available...dont miss out on the opportunity to see the beautiful gardens.

GYPSY MOTH TREATMENT NOTICE
The Illinois Department of Agriculture and the Zion Park District have found infestations of Gypsy Moths throughout Shiloh Park. If uncontrolled, they can destroy all the oaks in the park.
It has been determined that an aerial spray by helicopter will help control the Gypsy Moth. Tomorrow, 5/16/2024, a biological insecticide will be sprayed over Shiloh Park and Shiloh Golf Course. The application should be completed around 7:00 AM. Please avoid open areas in these locations until the application is complete.
The insecticide targets caterpillars and does not harm people, animals, birds, fish, bees and other beneficial insects.
Congratulations Marty Neal on your hole in one on hole 11 yesterday!

Update: The Sports Arena Fitness Studio will be open regular hours Thurs, May 9. Thank you for your patience!
The Zion Park District was honored to be awarded a grant from the Illinois Association of Parks & Recreation (IPRA). IPRA's Statewide Funding Initiative provided the District a savings of $141,417 on the playground equipment that will be installed this Summer in Shiloh Park. The existing equipment will be donated to Kids Around the World, an agency that builds playgrounds and brings hope to children in underdeveloped countries.
The overall renovation of Shiloh Park includes a combination of grants totaling almost one million dollars! In addition to IPRA's initiative, the Park District also secured a $400,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and a $400,000 grant from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (thanks to the help of State Representative Joyce Mason). The Zion Park District is excited for this renovation of Shiloh Park for the community to enjoy. Construction will begin this Spring!
