Interesting article just released for the 2022 Hurricane season. Space X in coordination with the Hurricane Hunters will be implementing 'Project Dust Buster' for the first time ever. Billions of dust particles collected from the Saharan Desert will be flown up on a specially designed rocket given manual coordinate controls to the Hurricane Hunters flying inside the eye. Timely release of these particles will pe*****te the Hurricane eye (in theory) helping the storm digest dry air beginning the weakening process of the storm. Full article here: bit.ly/3IUOE9X

Elkhorn coral (acropora palmata) is common on the reefs in the waters of Virgin Islands National Park. The branching structure of these beautiful coral colonies not only provides shelter for a wide variety of small tropical reef fish, but it also fortifies our shorelines against erosion from high seas.

These gorgeous marine animals are becoming more and more rare, and as a result, they are listed as an endangered species. Many factors are leading to their decline including climate change, overfishing, ocean acidification, and more.

As you explore the waters of Virgin Islands National Park, please be mindful to avoid coming in contact these coral colonies, or any other component of the reefs, as elkhorn coral tends to be found in shallow water. It is easy to break their branches with stray kicks while treading water if swimmers are not careful to avoid them.

Also, please remember to use only reef-safe sunscreens that do not contain oxybenzone, octinoxate, or octocryrlene, as these chemicals have been shown to inhibit corals' ability to reproduce.

Follow these guidelines and you'll be on your way to safely and responsibly enjoying your adventures on the beautiful coral reefs of our park!

The Whales are Back! | News of St. John Yesterday was an absolutely incredible day for many boaters, residents and whale watchers on St. John! We were out on a half day sail near Little St. James

What an exhilarating and memorable day on the water! We’re lucky enough to have Jar'd Wine Pub’s mascot GUMBY sailing with us today! He drove the dinghy to get our Pizza Pi VI lunch.
