Thank you Ann Sewer for this amazing book that has become this summer workshop's biggest hit among workshop students in the 4th Annual St. John Outdoor Love City Learning Summer Creative Arts & Literacy Workshop© 2024! I think it is time for a summer book fair where children get to select amazing colorful fun-filled words inside amazing books that they can begin to create home libraries by borrowing books with other friends' home libraries!
Dr. Sewer's Storytime©
I could not do this storytime every day without my workshop leaders, who are amazing at helping some workshop students with their reading activity that follows each read-aloud. No one is left alone. These reading activities are part of a bigger curriculum designed by Dr. Sewer specifically for this population on St. John to experience an interactive and engaging Love City Learning experience where reading, writing, listening, and learning by play are on the menu!

Learning about the color wheel with this amazing book!
Beginning with the color blue, we explored the colors that make blue (yellow and green) and learned a little history of this amazing color and its link to a time when the indigo industry oftentimes involved the enslavement of people to produce these beautiful blue dyes. To learn more about having Dr. Sewer read to your class, group, organization, or club just go to www.neguseducation.com See you at the library!

Children need a place where they can feel safe to learn and discover who they are, what they like or do not like, what they love, and what they are good at… It is our job to create that space for children, free from judgement and full of love.

Workshop students are learning about themselves through my own ancestral heritage on St. John. Here is Noble Samuel, my paternal great-uncle, who was a National Park Ranger. Through the Friends of the Park newly created scholarship named in my great uncle's honor, The Noble Samuel Scholar spoke to workshop students and they created their own pictures of themselves in their "dream job" or "dream business" as they learn about financial literacy.

Nature provides time for mistakes to be corrected (by both children and adults), for prejudices to be overcome, and for children to catch their breath and restore their image of themselves, peers, parents, teachers, and the world.

I celebrate teaching that enables transgressions – a movement against and beyond boundaries. It is that movement which makes education the practice of freedom.

My first birth will I no longer get to hold in my arms again. My life is not the same. I will not give myself to another again. Do not talk to me crazy. I am moving forward to tranquility and a koi fish pond with my horses and my dogs and my animals that love me without incident. - Dr. Carla Sewer

Creating items that will encourage a rich literacy experience is a necessary part of learning to read and I am blessed to be able to volunteer my time with Storytime with Dr. Sewer© at my Alma Mater, Julius E. Sprauve School, the school where I went through from K to 9th grade. When I graduated from JESS (9th grade) I graduated as the 1984 Virgin Islands Hal Jackson Talented Teen Winner representing the Virgin Islands in Jamacia for the International Competition!
