A refurbishment on the top floor of an existing building to be a private residential unit, is for a couple who owns and works at this building.
Built-in furniture acts as a multi-functional usage in a limited space which creates smoothness and cleanliness throughout space while some loose furniture is used to possibly adjust in the future.

“How we see it, this house sets an example of a polite conversation between the nature, the architecture and users.”

This house inhabits not just individuals but also various flora and fauna with each changing season. As simple it is, in plan, we tried to play with levels in and around the house, creating artificial contours within the landscape, the pool that sits on a level much lower than the house, the cantilevered deck, the floating balconies, and a manmade lake.

The façade reflects minimalism, while the scale and details of the built-form resonates optimism as one walks down the unpaved contours of the house. Opening the west-facing blue wooden door, one feels welcomed by a low height foyer embraced by an open courtyard.

Surrounded by lush greens, bamboo screens and white textured walls, this courtyard houses the water body, landscape with varied plant species and a floating concrete staircase that leads to terrace.

The Loft With Love in Prague, Czech Republic. ✏️The design client brief for CMC Architects | was quite clear: "A loft in the spirit of the industrial character of the original brewery campus. Minimalistic, rational beauty, just exposed-brick wall surfaces, a steel staircase, a steel bookcase, a concrete floor and a black ceiling, the ideal loft." The client and the building inspired the design of an open yet introspective space. The loft is surrounded by history, but it’s about living modern.

Upper East Side Residence, New York, New York Tom Kundig
Located atop a brick 1930s Art Deco building, the Upper East Side Residence is comprised of two penthouse apartments and a water tank enclosure. The residence includes 3,500 square feet of interior space that spans two floors plus an interior mezzanine and 2,500 square feet of exterior roof terraces.

The design transforms the former water tower space and penthouses into a functional and comfortable living space for a young family—an urban residence that unifies both indoor and outdoor spaces. A critical part of the renovation was finding a way to reveal and balance the original building materials, which had been covered over by decades of construction, with new modern details and material that felt aesthetically appropriate for the building’s historic underpinnings.
