DVB releases first specifications for 8K UHD video service delivery!
The DVB Steering Board has approved specification updates that introduce capabilities to deliver 8K UHD video services for the first time. These updates, extending existing support for the HEVC codec, are the first step in a series of key additions planned for the DVB video coding specifications. These will ensure that DVB continues to provide the most comprehensive and flexible toolbox for the delivery of next generation television services via broadcast and broadband.

DVB’s role in the fight against climate change!
Climate change is one of the biggest threats to human existence, and tackling it requires urgent action at every level. While watching television is a very low carbon activity, its cumulative impact means that we in the broadcasting industry have a responsibility to adapt the way we operate. Changing technology, particularly the move to IP, represents an opportunity for us to innovate and reduce our energy use and carbon emissions.

A new ebook from Rohde & Schwarz addresses how broadcasters can maintain the high quality content offering as options continue to grow, and how mobile network operators can safeguard against coverage outages.
Introducing the concept of 5G broadcast/multicast, the white paper explores the benefits of its “one source to many destinations” approach to traffic distribution. By combining unicast and multicast modes, 5G paves the way for the future of media delivery, significantly reducing congestion, latency and capex/opex burdens. The same infrastructure that delivers content to TVs and smartphones can concurrently deliver to smart devices and even vehicles, allowing drivers and passengers to not only receive entertainment but also essential weather and map updates.

Why is FM radio transmission better?
FM uses a higher frequency range and a bigger bandwidth than AM. Each FM station is allocated 150 kHz of bandwidth, which is 15 times that of an AM station. This means that an FM station can transmit 15 times as much information as an AM station and explains why music sounds so much better on FM.
KTTN L.L.C. takes care of the technical exploitation of radio broadcasts through FM. This way, radio stations can focus on their core business, which is making radio. In addition we offer broadcast services to other companies dealing with different radio connection systems and Internet Service Providers (ISP).
We deliver the best services to radio transmission in Kosovo. Visit us at: www.kttn.net
As a service, through KTTN L.L.C network, the TV broadcasting is currently done through analogous system, while the company has made all necessary changes to provide digital transmission via technology. KTTN as an operator of terrestrial transmission services has made the first tests in this regard a few years ago, in other words the tests were made by two transmission points Vneshta and Golesh in DVB T technology and have resulted in a great support from the audience as well as the technology.
The newest no longer poses any problem for KTTN to start broadcasting on the SFN platform where within a band 8 to 10 high quality TV channels can broadcast.

H.266 or VVC (Versatile Video Codec) is a new compression standard developed by the Joint Video Experts Team (JVET). The team was formed by experts from the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) from the ISO/IEC group and the Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) from the ITU-T group.
Early tests suggest that H.266 achieves 40%-50% better compression rates than HEVC, which is currently used by Apple in iPhones. That could mean that you can stream an episode of your favorite series by using almost half the data.
The JVET decided to build H.266 (VVC) for applications beyond video streaming. The standard has support for beaming 4K to 8K videos seamlessly, along with support for 360-degree videos. This could be useful in VR and AR applications.

DVB has approved commercial requirements for next generation video codecs ahead of the launch of advanced 4K and 8K services.
By specifying how to use next generation video codecs, DVB hopes to enable new video experiences such as 8K, as well as improved accessibility and personalization options. The greater efficiency promised by the new codecs will help enable an increased UHD service offer on terrestrial broadcast networks and greater reach coupled with lower distribution costs for broadband delivery.
Support for 8K video is one of the key requirements defined, with resolution up to 7680×4320 pixels. High dynamic range (HDR) and high frame rates (HFR) are also to be supported.
The first specifications will be available in 2022.

Among the many advantages of the new system, DVB-T2 standard is characterized by:
- Better bandwidth utilization (higher multiplex capacity) and a much more effective data compression
- High Efficiency Video Codec (HEVC) /H.265
- Enables sending approx. 24.88 Mbps in one 8 MHz channel, while DVB-T2 can extend this value to 40 Mbps.
- Broadcast channels in 4K / Ultra HD image resolution.

The DVB Project has approved commercial requirements for DVB-I service support over 5G networks and systems. Work has already commenced in DVB’s Technical Module to provide extensions to the relevant existing specifications – including DVB-I service discovery and DVB-DASH – to address the use cases and requirements collected and agreed by the Commercial Module.
Updates to relevant DVB specifications to fully support DVB-I over 5G are expected to be completed in Q3, 2022.
