Today, our client was refining his articulation skills. Ms. Gloria chose to focus on his S blends while simultaneously providing him with magnetic shapes to maintain his engagement. He performed exceptionally well and enjoyed the activity.

As hurricane season approaches, we made the decision to host a hurricane preparedness presentation during our stroke group meeting today. Utilizing the pillow case method, our patients were tasked with selecting essential items required in the event of a natural disaster. Additionally, a game of “guess that price” was played with selected items. All participants received a gift for their involvement. The session concluded with a meal of wraps and a friendly game of dominoes. 😁😁

Wake up and smell the roses! In today’s monthly stroke group meeting, it was collectively decided to engage in the activity of repotting flowers. Patients were encouraged to decorate their flower pots and add embellishments. Following the gardening activity, the group enjoyed a meal together. Who doesn’t love baked potatoes ? 💐🌸

On Saturday, First Step Therapy had the privilege of participating in the Pediatric Disaster Expo hosted by the Emergency Medical Service for Children (EMSC). Among other things being celebrated this month, April is Occupational Therapy Awareness Month. What is occupational therapy? Occupational therapy is a branch of health care that helps people of all ages who have physical, sensory, or cognitive problems. OT can help them regain independence in all areas of their lives. Occupational therapists help with barriers that affect a person’s emotional, social, and physical needs.🩵💙

April is Autism Awareness Month but today in particular is Autism Awareness Day. On a day like today, let’s take some time to educate one another on what Autism (ASD) is. 🩷🩵❤️💙🧡💜💛💚.

Due to yesterday being Epilepsy Awareness Day, here is a bit of information on what epilepsy is.💡

This month our stroke group consisted of a sip and paint that was geared towards the theme of St.Patty’s Day. Above, you can see that they painted sketches of rainbows and shamrocks. For lunch we had a hands-on sandwich making activity in which the patients made healthy sandwiches and drank fruit smoothies. We ended our group session with guest speakers from the Juan F Luis Cardiac Rehab Center. Mr. Andrew Edwards and Ms. Risheema Burke presented information on cardiac health, exercise, and organic non-gmo nutrition. Thank you to the staff of the cardiac rehab team for taking time to present this information. “When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use.
