Today is 🤩 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PLAY 🤩
So what does that mean? Well, International Day of Play was established by the United Nations to highlight the importance of play for children and young people.
Today and every day, we recognise that play is not just for fun, but also crucial for children's academic and emotional growth. Play serves as the universal language that transcends cultural barriers, helping children to educate themselves, grow, and reach their full potential through a medium they are most familiar with.
Play is the child's work, and the activities they participate in are their way of expressing themselves.

Today was a brilliant day filled with sunshine and enjoyment 😎. We started by celebrating the hubby's last rugby coaching session, which he has absolutely loved but unfortunately due to work and caring commitments has had to stop.
Coaching alongside his daddy has boosted our wee man's confidence and he has absolutely loved every bit of that experience.
Following on from this we enjoyed the sporadic visit of the sun 😜 at our hometown of Strabane during the annual Strabane Jamm. The town was bustling with energy and it was wonderful to see such a large turnout 🤩
Seeing the positive energy within the community was wonderful to see. When people come together, it has a positive impact on everyone's mental health. We are born to connect with one another, and fostering more community opportunities is crucial for supporting overall wellbeing 🤩

A night out with the hubby which is a very rare occasion for us to go out, (rare). And not just out but... out out!
Our schedules are like ships passing in the night due to work commitments, our unique caring responsibilities and most importantly raising our little one 🥰
When the hubby suggested getting a babysitter last minute, I thought he was mad (madness I tell you, surely they wouldn't be free) but decided to take a chance non the less because at the end of the day it's important to prioritise our well being by taking a break and living in the moment. Plus spontaneity is like a burst of positive energy (added bonus) 😊
Take the leap, make that last minute decision and who knows what can happen 🤩
⭐SOLD OUT⭐
In person tickets are sold out, only virtual tickets remain.

We received some wonderful feedback from our latest Play Schemas Training. Karen beautifully sums up the important message highlighted throughout the training of "valuing the autistic child's voice and play preferences".
Understanding and respecting their unique and wonderful way of playing helps us build stronger connections, create more learning opportunities, and promote emotional well being for the autistic child 😃
Thank you Karen 🤩
I am beyond excited and honoured to share that not only have I been nominated but also selected as a finalist for the Most Inspirational Support for Students category in the Local Women Magazine Inspirational Women of the Year Awards 2024 😀
A massive thank you to all the schools that have supported Neuro Skillshop and our programs 🤗
Working with every pupil has been a rewarding experience, teaching me valuable lessons and motivating me to continue with Neuro Skillshop. Seeing first hand the positive impact our services have on both the individual child and the wider school community has been truly motivating 🤩
Keeping my fingers crossed for the awards ceremony 🤞🤞🤞
Lego® offers a wide range of educational and emotional benefits. By offering activities which are fun, incorporate movement, and the child's interests will engage both sides of the brain, crucial for development.
The flexibility of Lego® provides endless joy that sparks curiosity and promotes learning. Lego® offers those "Wow" moments which solidifies the overall learning experience 🤩

Meet my amazing son, who is 5 years old and who has grown up with his incredible Uncle Marc, my brother. Marc, has severe learning difficulties, is non speaking and autistic. Being autistic allows him to utilise the strengths of visuals, routines, and reading people, which helps support the challenges that come with his severe learning difficulties.
Our little boy has a special bond with Marc, leading to his own remarkable growth in empathy, kindness, patience, and nonjudgmental attitude.
These qualities are truly exceptional for a 5 year old showing how the formation of the brain at an early stage really does shape a person's perspective.
My passion to enhance the knowledge and skills needed to support autistic individuals with severe learning difficulties stems from my amazing brother.

Our goal at Neuro Skillshop is to ensure that each training program we offer remains neuro-affirming.
Through our training, parents and professionals gain the necessary knowledge and skills to provide support to children based on their strengths, rather than focusing on their weaknesses. In turn neurodivergent children and young people thrive in their development both academically and emotionally.
I absolutely love delivering SIX Bricks Training and hearing about the positive difference it makes for parents and professionals when they use the activities and strategies to support their child or young person’s learning and emotional development, it is truly remarkable 🤩

The night before it all kicks off 😃
A fantastic 2 day of event for all, where Neuro Skillshop will presenting its unique educational and mental health service for all children, with a particular specialism for autistic and neurodivergent children 🤩
I strongly believe in respecting, honouring and validating different communication styles, even before it became widely recognised. Unfortunately, not all styles are accepted.
Everyone should be able to choose their own method of communication without judgment. Forcing others to conform to a specific style is toxic. Understanding and acceptance are key, especially when it comes to conditions like prosopagnosia.
✨ In keeping with Mental Health Awareness week ✨
Here are a few ways to promote good mental health:
👉 Socialise with others. Building strong relationships is key to mental wellness.
👉 Stay active physically.
👉 Keep learning new things.
👉 Practice mindfulness and live in the moment.
Introducing fun and play-based activities can greatly benefit the emotional health of children and young people. Lego® themed activities are a great way to incorporate the above suggestions.
Here we ended with a parachute game where we firstly explored Lego® face emotions on the dice and what these emotions mean personally, followed by group and individual Lego® builds, and ending with the parachute.
The joy and fun experienced by the children releases serotonin and dopamine, contributing to overall wellbeing. These activities also release endorphins, helping with stress relief 🤩

Catch you all tomorrow evening, can't wait! 🤩
We've been working on something really exciting for the past few months. Stay tuned for all the details 🤩🥳
We received some wonderful feedback from our Sensory, Play, and Lego® training session this last night. By involving your child's senses in different play activities such as Lego®, you can help enhance their learning and emotional growth.
Sensory play not only helps with language and motor skills development, but also encourages cognitive development, social engagement, and sparks curiosity and creativity 😃
Next Strabane meeting taking place this Friday at Grass Roots Wellness Cafe, Strabane. Everyone welcome, run by a wonderful group Parent Connect NI
