Had a great chat with Waylon Lewis and Elephant Journal about weight-stigma and fatphobia in the world of dating
Waylon & Cara Cifelli talk Relationships & Weight & Diet & Body-Love. | elephant journal “You deserve a partnership where you can relax and be your whole self. A partner who loves and accepts you fully. So does believing you have to diet and change yourself to find a relationship the best strategy to find the type of relationship you most desire? Or are you objectifying yourself in th...
It’s cliché but it’s not *really* about the food.
And a continued focus on the food or which diet/lifestyle to try next will just keep you in the same loop.
If you want freedom from binge eating, emotional eating, and other disordered behaviors, look for the positive intention those behaviors might have.
What is the food obsession covering up?
What’s the function and purpose the behaviors serve?
What are they trying to protect you from?
What are they helping you avoid or escape?
By understanding and addressing *that* instead of thinking you just need more willpower or control or a new diet to try, you will find the solution to your problem with food.
And this is exactly what I help my clients do.
DM me to learn more about coaching. 1:1 spots are open again!
Letting go of dieting and restriction is *kinda like* detoxing from a drug addiction.
All the painful thoughts, feelings and emotions you tried to avoid by shrinking your body will come up
And it often feels horrible, just like the withdraw symptoms from a drug.
A big part of you will want to go back to dieting to avoid feeling all the things, just a drug user might want to use again to avoid the painful withdrawal symptoms
but the only way to heal from your addiction to dieting (aka avoiding your inner world by shrinking your outer body) or a drugs is to go through the painful detox period.
you have to feel those uncomfortable feelings and emotions,
➡️ look at them, process them, be with them, feel them, and heal from them.
That’s how you stop hating your body & self and making everything be about your weight.
The only way out is through.
And at Food Body Soul - a the Retreat you will be supported through the process of all those emotions of body shame and hate so you can finally feel body peace and acceptance.

This was getting so much love in my stories I decided to give it a permanent spot on the feed 💫
This quote is from my yoga teacher, Daveed. He shared it last night while we were in Shavasana and it really spoke to me - In general, but also about healing your relationship with food and your body.
The constant fear and worry of what others are thinking are heavy. And it's gasoline to the fire of our eating disorders. We try to control our weight so we can control other people's opinions of us (among other things)…
And it's exhausting.
Play with me for a few moments (or maybe longer in your journal) and ponder how you'd live your life if...
you no longer cared as much about people's opinions of:
your body,
your weight,
your clothing,
your job,
who you love,
what you love,
where you came from,
where you're going,
and you instead followed your intuition, your truth, your inner knowing, above all else.
How might your life be different? What choices might you start making? Who would you become through this process of liberation?
Share with me below - what's one thing you would do differently if you weren't held back by the opinions of others?
✨🤎💫
I had an eating disorder for ten years. I've been recovered for ten years.
During both decades, I've had an arguably amazing life. Traveled, went to school, attended music festivals, had exciting jobs, loving family, fulfilling friendships and romantic relationships, etc.
So while from the *outside looking in* things might not look allllll that different, from the *inside looking out* the difference in the decades is unrecognizable.
When struggling with my ED, I was always in my head, obsessing over food, my weight, and what others thought of me. I constantly compared myself to others, desperate for external validation, overthinking every bite of food, and my self-talk was so negative. I was restricting, binge eating, and punishing myself with exercise. My self-worth, self-esteem, and self-confidence were fragile, always based on how I felt about my body.
Now that I've healed, I can be present in my life, eating is literally so damn easy, and I am not obsessing over what people think of me. I have so much inner peace. My self-talk is compassionate, kind, and respectful. I truly take care of my health and my body in holistic ways. My self-worth, self-esteem, and self-confidence come from who I am and my relationship with myself and has very little to do with my appearance.
Our ED Voice and Fear Voice like to tell us that things will get worse if we stop trying to control food and our weight, but it is a lie.
While healing is often messy and hard, things will be much brighter on the other side. Things will be different. They will get better.
If you have read this far, this is your sign, it's time to choose recovery, it's time to work towards healing.

I spent years at war with myself because I had cellulite, and the way we are taught to hate our flesh is a level of cruelty I can't fully articulate.
Beautiful, sophisticated, poetic words are escaping me today so what I got for you is...
F**k the patriarchy😡
I am tired of their war against women and our bodies.
There is nothing wrong with you or your body if you have cellulite.

GIRL- Obsessing over food and your weight is robbing you of your power ⚡️
It is stripping you of valuable resources that could otherwise be devoted to taking action and making change.
I got this text from a previous client & graduate of FBS - The Academy (now friend 👯♀️) last week, the day Roe was overturned. It made my heart happy on an otherwise dark af day.
AND It reminded me of the famous quote from Naomi Wolf "Dieting is the most potent political sedative in women's history. A quietly mad population is a tractable one."
Telling women they must be thin and desirable is just one more way our patriarchal society tries to control us and our bodies. (And people in general)
Diet Culture convinces you to invest your time, money, energy, and brain space in this pursuit that could otherwise be devoted to making a difference in the areas that are important to you.
When you heal you will have so much more resources to show up in the world for things you care about. The things that truly matter.
Taking your power back from systems that are only designed to oppress you is the only "hot girl summer" s**t I care to talk about.
This is the last week to join Food Body Soul - The Academy - We start July 5th.
DM me to set up a discovery call to see if the program is a great fit for you.
I am going to be 100% honest right now…
I completely resent how much time women spend worrying about food and their weight.
I don't resent the women, I have deep deep deep compassion for them. I was them. 🤎
I resent the fact that Diet Culture is so omnipotent, so insidious, and so manipulative, that it has its toxic narratives infecting the minds of really smart, powerful, incredible women everywhere. 🤬
Literally stealing their time, money, energy, and brain space but selling it to them like its empowerment, only to make them feel ashamed, guilty, miserable, frustrated, and like failures.
I f*cking hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. UGH. Did I mention I hate it?
But it's why I care about what I do so much!
Helping women reclaim their lives from Diet Culture is the best thing ever 🙌
I love when my clients tell me they feel free around food, that they are no longer obsessing over it, and that they had s*x. naked. with the lights on 🤯 and their partners LOVED IT.
✨

Food really can be no 👏big 👏deal. I promise.
I live it every day and my clients learn to live it, too - just check out the gazillion testimonials on my site.
Seriously, you do not have to keep feeling crazy around food.
You do not have to keep binge-eating your face off after promising yourself the day would be different.
You do not have to keep hating yourself because you hate your body.
Life is way too short to let another year go by struggling with this s**t.
It's time to heal.
DM me to set up a discovery call to see if Food Body Soul - The Academy is the right fit. We start July 5th.
Well- it was for me anyway 💁♀️
If you’re feeling like it might be for you, too, take a moment and think about the women you know (either personally or online) who are comfortable and confident in their skin.
The women who hold their heads up high, speak their minds, and trust themselves.
Who show up for life with curiosity, compassion, and presence.
Who aren't afraid to be seen or to take up space.
Who don't take themselves too seriously.
Who dance, and cry and let themselves feel it all.
The women who know they are enough!
They are incredible, right?
Well, guess what?
That type of woman is inside of you, too.
If you see it in her it's because it's within you.
That version of you is just weighed down because of unhealed wounds and hurts, she is believing lies about herself and her body. She isn't seeing herself clearly, she is seeing herself through the lens of diet culture.
But she is in there.
And I'd love to help you call that version of you forward. I know you’re scared, but she is ready for you to heal and let her shine.
It's exactly what we do inside Food Body Soul - The Academy. DM me to set up a complimentary discovery call to see if it's a great fit. I can't wait to talk with you. 🤎
Real empowerment comes from ditching Diet Culture and healing your relationship with food - not trying to control and shrink yourself into something that isn't natural for you.
I'll be teaching you how to make food no big deal - seriously. Eating can become the easiest thing you do each day and it will feel incredible!
Come learn how inside FBS - The Academy.

Thin Privilege is real, it’s why you’re willing to sacrifice so much, but what if I told you that you can have what you desire and feel the way you want in your natural size?
You truly can, you just have to be willing to do some inner work.
The exact type of inner work we do in FBS - The Academy. My signature group coaching program.
We begin July 5th. DM me to set up a discovery call to see if it’s a great fit.
There is a fine line between taking care of your health and disordered eating.
From the outside looking in, it might be hard to spot the difference. But on the inside, it's clear.
Fear of eating the wrong thing, shame when you do.
The pressure to “be good” and to make up for “being bad.”
Rigidity at restaurants and agony over what to order.
Eating one way in public and differently behind closed doors.
Food is turned into a math equation, the tally kept in MyFitnessPal.
Hyperfixation on what you are eating compared to others.
Meals often come with a side of stress, anxiety, and guilt.
Telling yourself you’ll be better tomorrow.
And near-constant thoughts of food occupy your mind.
On the outside, you might just look like the “healthy one.” But if you’re honest with yourself, you know deep down, you’re the disordered one.
✨
- I wrote this about my younger self but iykyk. And it doesn't have to keep being this way. Freedom, sanity, and ease with food are absolutely possible. And I’d love to support you and guide there.
I know the struggle with food like the back of my hand and I know peace from it even better.

Happy birthday to my hunny, Brent.
It’s my favorite when we sit down to pick out recipes to make each week and when we cook them together while listening to . It’s my favorite when we move slow and cuddle in the morning because we stayed up too late watching TV. Its my favorite when we go to Disneyland and you say it’s because we’re reminding ourselves why we don’t have kids. It’s my favorite when we eat mushrooms, stare up at the stars and talk about the event horizon of black holes. It’s my favorite that you are a living, breathing encyclopedia who knows that answer to any question on any subject 97.2% of the time. Its my favorite that you like the smell of palo santo and enjoy doing Joe Dizpensa meditations with me. It’s my favorite that you actually enjoy cleaning because gawd knows I don’t. It’s my favorite that I’m your favorite. Thank you for doing life with me. Happy bday, my love 🫶

Food freedom is 100% possible.
But it can be tricky to uncover all the ways you are still impacted by your history of dieting by yourself.
When I start working with clients they are often surprised by how judgemental and fearful they still are around food.
Just how many odd food rules they still have.
Just how triggering being terrified of weight gain can be for binge eating.
Which is exactly why I created Food Body Soul - The Academy - my signature 4-month group coaching program.
You will be supported while you work through The Diet Mentality. Transform your mindset, transform your life.
