πŸ’« LAGOS πŸ’«

Yes.. the rumours are true! Lagos is magical and this coastal town will leave you wanting to come back for more!! 2024 Euro Summer here we come πŸ˜†

We explored both the old town & coastline while in Lagos & both are worth a visit (or a few) πŸ„β€β™€οΈ We only had a couple of days but would definitely recommend 5 days to a week (especially if you have a car and want to venture out to explore other local spots like Sagres & Faro) πŸš™ 🏝

Our top tips!

1. Wake up early and head to the beach before the crowds!! Being absolutely gorgeous - Lagos attracts the masses.. but if you can get to the beach for sunrise you’ll be sure to have a little slice to yourself! 🌊

2. Spend an evening in the old town! Lagos old town is super charming (like most old towns).. however it also has a laid back / surf vibe that makes it a little different from your standard historical town! Walk around the gorgeous cobble stone streets, enjoy a meal of Peri Peri Chicken and Chips, take in the stunning street art and listen to the live music played by street performers in almost every little town square! 🎢

3. Rent a car and explore the outskirts! Lagos is a great place to base yourself while you explore the vast Algarve coast!! We would definitely recommend hiring a car so you can truly enjoy all this coastline has to offer - especially if you are a surfer! The Algarve coast is full of awesome surf spots πŸ„β€β™‚οΈ

As promised.. here is our (wider) Sintra itinerary!! Our top picks of where to go & what to see πŸ‘€ Like we said.. most people stay in Lisbon and visit Sintra as a day trip, but if you have the time, we think you should try and stay in this area for at least a week! 🌾 So we have based this itinerary on 5 days - a week! We based ourselves in the cute little Colares, a town about 10mins drive from main Sintra & 5 minutes from the coastline (which was perfect) πŸ‘Œ Here’s how we recommend you should spend your time in this beautiful slice of Portugal! ✨ 2 days in Sintra town 🏰 There are a bunch of stunning historic buildings & sites you can visit within the Sintra National park & township, and most take about 1/2 a day to visit properly.. Our top picks would be the PeΓ±a Palace & Moorish Castle (make sure to book online in advance, as you have to book a time slot and they fill up fast) πŸ’¨ We would also recommend setting aside an afternoon to walk around Sintra’s old town and to dine out at one of the local restaurants to try a traditional meal! 2 days at the beach! Sintra is very close to a stunning coastline, filled with surf beaches and incredible cliff top hikes πŸƒ These beaches are well worth the visit and we would recommend making at least 2 day trips to explore these beaches 🌊 Our personal faves would be Praia Grande, Praia Da Adraga (and the cliff top walk between the two with a prehistoric surprise πŸ¦•) and Praia Pequena (the locals hang out). 1-2 days in Colares (we might be biased as we stayed here) but this quaint little town is full of charm! Visit the local brewery & winery, walk around the charming back streets and enjoy a traditional hot chocolate and Portuguese tart at the local cafe! Did we miss something? We would love to know your recommendations too!
