𝗜'𝗺 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿😱 I imagine that's the thought when someone from the Chilean register office sees my birth certificate. I chose to become an Austrian citizen, and sadly they don't allow more than one pass. Not at least you are a football player or an opera singer🙄 . So, I had to resign my 🇨🇱 citizenship. It is recorded on my birth certificate now. Many of you writing about passports will agree they are a piece of paper and don't have a pivotal role in representing identity. Still, having to travel to my birth country and being allowed to stay max. 90 days and filling out all the forms as a foreigner was a very surreal experience. Do I feel like a traitor? Hell no! It was the right choice, and I would do it again. 𝗠𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁. I've been an expat for more than 12 years, and I still have that thick Chilean accent that everyone in Latin America (and few in Spain) can recognize. 𝗠𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁. In Chile, paltas are not a poshy (and very non-ecological) trend. Since forever, we use palta for everything, and we have many sayings for it. For example, "sanguchito de palta" (small avocado sandwich): if you press it just a little bit, it will spill (meaning people who love gossip!) 𝗠𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁. If you feel an earthquake and can spot the only people calm and even laughing about it, they are surely Chilean. I have one very official Austrian passport on paper. But my identity, story, experience, scars, loves, and heartbreaks are spread in more than one country. I'm my passport—𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝘅𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀, 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮

About communication without words... Having traveled as much as I have, and being confronted with so many languages, cultures, traditions and social codes, I've realized how important it is to know how communicate without words. Because I use movies to illustrate what I mean, I leave you with a scene of this AMAZING movie, "close encounters of the third kind". How they managed to find a common language to communicate and understand each other's purpose. For me, the common language is food. Food brings people together despite their differences, connects, brings happiness and fulfilment.
