With its stunning landscapes and recreational opportunities, Snow Canyon State Park is a perfect for a family getaway, and it’s far less traveled than other national parks around.

We visited this park in February, and loved it so much, as it has tons of kid-friendly trails.

Check out The Nymph, Dream, and Emerald Lake hike. This is one of the best hikes in RMNP, offering stunning views of multiple lakes. If you have extra time, you can add Lake Haiyaha and a walk around Bear Lake to your adventures too.

✅ Must-do before the hike: Check the weather forecast and ask rangers about avalanche danger.

✅ What to bring: MICROSPIKES, snowshoes, dress in warm clothes, hat, gloves, water, food, and hand warmers.

I have been hiking in , and I absolutely love them, especially for my winter adventures. Paired with warm wool socks, they keep my feet warm and dry. If there’s one thing you are looking to invest in to make your hiking adventures fun and safe, I say investing in good hiking boots is a great idea.

🍦 Lollypops and Sunny Cup have the yummiest ice cream and some other desserts.
🍝 Bella's Bistro is a must! It’s a super small and family-owned restaurant, so you must visit this place to try some of the best Italian food in the area. BUT make sure you reserve your table ahead of time, as they are usually booked.

Hikes: Treasure Island Bridge was our kids' favorite, as we had to cross two amazing bridges, and they thought it was the coolest. Unfortunately, we couldn't hike to Medicine Bow Peak via Lakes Trail Loop as it was covered in snow.

Tips for Visiting Goblin Valley State Park

We visited Goblin Valley State Park in mid-February on our way home from the St. George. This park isn’t that big and we only spent a few hours there.

🗓When to Visit: it is open year-round but I would suggest checking it during Spring or Fall months, as it gets pretty warm there during summer 🥵

🥾Where to Hike: there are multiple trails in this park, but our favorites are Three Sister Trail (1mi) and Curtis Bench Trail (about 2 mi along the ridge of the park, and it offers a nice overview of the whole Goblin Valley.

🎒 What to Bring: plenty of drinking water, sunscreen, sun hat, sunglasses, sturdy hiking shoes with good traction. Remember to check the weather and dress accordingly.

⛺️ Where to Stay: there is no hotel inside the park, but they have 24 campground sites for both RV and tents, and 2 yurts. So if you want to stay in one of these amazing yurts, you will need to book your spot about 4 month in advance.

💰 Entrance Fee: $20 per vehicle

🌌FUN FACT: Goblin Valley has one of the clearest, darkest night skies in the world.

I wanted to share some great news with you all!

As a parent, I know how important it is to provide our little ones with a strong foundation of learning and socialization. That's why we decided to send our three-year-old to preschool this year. We are very happy to see him learning math, language, and important social skills, but the cost of preschool is definitely a concern for us.

That's why I got excited when I heard that Universal Preschool got approved to start in Colorado in fall of 2023. This means that our now four-year-old can attend preschool for half a day, completely free of charge, and some qualifying kids are eligible for an additional 15 hours stacked on top of the half-day programming, bringing those children to full-day programming. This has brought us such peace of mind, knowing that our child will continue to learn and grow in a safe and supportive environment, without having to worry about the financial burden.

I wanted to share this with you all, in case any of you were in a similar situation. I hope this news brings some relief and excitement to your family, as it has to mine. Let's continue to support our little ones' education and development, and make use of the resources available to us.

Little munchkin was finally excited about the snow, as last year he didn’t like to bundle up, and cried as soon as the snowflake touched his face. But this time he loved everything about it. Especially his new outfit that kept him nice a toasty on the cold Colorado morning. He was happily yelling “wohoooo” on the repeat. Little moments like this 💙

Like Rocky Mountain, Mesa Verde, Great Sand Dunes, Black Canyon of the Gunnison and it is also home to 41 state parks? Colorado sure has something for every outdoor lover. We feel grateful to live in such an amazing state surrounded by pretty mountains, so we love to get out as a family to explore and breathe in all the fresh mountain air! And of course, with two boys I need to have some delicious and nutritious snacks handy.

Tips on Getting Our Teens to Put Their Phones Down and Get Outside 🙌

Do you agree that when kids are little, getting them outside is much easier than when they're older? At least that’s a pattern we see in our household.

Little kids see everything as an adventure. They are always up and running. Not so much with teens. Teens crave independence! This is good, but it also means your teens may have strong opinions about what they want to do and when.

Finding ways to promote independence is one of the top tips for getting teens outside. When they feel like it’s their choice and they're in control of the activities, it’s much more fun for them.

The other thing that is kind of tough with teens is to find good gear for their growing and always changing body/mood. 😬

This year we are trying LOWA Boots , and our teen absolutely loves the cool designs and the fit of his new adventure boots. He says that are very comfortable, and sturdy, which makes hours spent on the trail fun. Having adventure boots that he loves makes him feel more excited to set his phone down and get outside to adventure!

🍁Abyss Lake Trail - this is one of the best and most yellow hikes for the fall color, best part —> is that you don’t even have to hike the whole length of the trail to see the best views!

‼️BUT go early on the weekend or during the week, as it gets very crowded during the peak season.

*** REMEMBER when exploring nature, make sure to Leave No Trace and ALWAYS stay on the trail!

Best Hiking Trail In Bryce Canyon For Kids

📍Navajo Loop Trail

It begins and ends at Sunset Point, travelling by switchbacks down between narrow walls of colorful limestone with views of towering Douglas-fir trees and the park's most famous hoodoo: Thor's hammer. The loop has two sides, the Two Bridges side and the Wall Street side.

The Two Bridges side is open year-round, however the Wall Street side is closed in months when precipitation combines with freezing overnight temperatures. When both sides are open, I recommend this as a counter-clockwise loop. When Wall Street is closed, the Two Bridges side can be hiked as an out-and-back or combined with other trails.
We have never seen anything like this before.

Wildflower season is almost here! Who is excited to go chase some blooms!?

So, where to take the best wildflower pictures in Colorado?

📍 Silver Dollar Lake and Murray Lake Trail - Colorado

⛰ this is relatively easy 4.1 mile out-and-back trail near Silver Plume, Colorado. The trail leads to two aqua color alpine lakes, with lots of wildflowers along the way. The first lake, Naylor Lake is on private property. You can enjoy its beauty, but please don’t trespass.

🗓The best times to visit this trail is mid June through October.

🎣 Silver Dollar and Murray Lakes both offer excellent fishing, so grab your fishing pole.

🦮Dogs are welcome, and may be off leash in some areas.

Hot Weather Hiking Tips

Hiking is such a fun outdoor activity that you can enjoy with your family all year around! But being out in the sun all day calls for planning ahead. Here are some of the things I suggest packing with you in order to enjoy your adventures in the hot weather:

- Carry a hydration pack or water bottle. We love Thermos Stainless King Beverage Bottles and the FUNtainer Water Bottles for kids as they keep our drinks cold for up to 12 hours and the Funtainer Water Bottles have an integrated carry handle which makes it easy to grip for little hands.

Fun Fact: Adults usually need 2 cups of water per hour of hiking and children 1-2 cups per hour of hiking. Did you know that?

- Sunscreen (opt for a waterproof one, and mineral based is awesome if you wish to avoid chemicals).

- Wide brimmed sun hats or those with neck flaps are perfect for extra protection.

- Sun protective clothing. For babies it's important to dress them in lightweight, airy, loose linen or 100% cotton clothing that covers their arms and legs.

- If you are carrying your baby in a carrier then keep a layer of fabric (a thin piece of muslin or cotton) between you and baby to help make things feel less sticky and sweaty.

- Avoid the hottest time of day (around noon to 3 p.m).

- Try to pick trails with plenty of shaded areas, tall trees or near a body of water. This will help minimize your sun exposure. It’s also a great idea to start your hike early in the morning not just to avoid the intense sun, but also to avoid heat!

We love Thermos products for our hikes and can’t recommend them enough!

These are the basic items we usually carry with us in our daily pack, and something you MUST have too.

What is another must-have for you when hiking?

Looking for a great winter hike in Rocky Mountain National Park? 💾(𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫)

Then check Lake Haiyaha, as in winter this lake has some of the most unique turquoise color ice formations. In my opinion it’s one of the BEST lakes at the park.

✅Length: 3.9 Miles RT

✅How to get there: Park at the Bear lake parking lot and begin your hike at the Bear Lake trailhead. Usually this parking lot gets full, and during the winter months there is no shuttle from the main parking lot, so plan to get there early. Next from the Bear Lake trailhead follow the trail to the Dream Lake for about 1mi. Then just before Dream Lake you will have to turn left to continue your hike to the lake Haiyaha (look for the sign). During the winter months the trail could be difficult to find, so the only way to find it is to follow the footprints or ski tracks from other hikers.

When you get to the lake you will find many large boulders at the shoreline, which looks a little rough but if you are careful, and have appropriate gear (microspikes) you can get over them to the icy lake and walk around it. It’s so much fun.
