A film crew followed the Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team at the Expedition Africa World Championship in Kouga, South Africa. They stayed as close to them as was possible and Emil Sergel of Pinewood Productions spent 400 hours in the editing suite to produce 'Beyond' for Swedish TV. Every key moment is captured and the character of each member of the team put under the spotlight. From their emotions and reactions it's clear SAFAT had absolute trust in the camera crew. Team Kamadona has completed the Malacara Race in 4th place. This team raced last year and had to retire on day one after a bee swarm attack, so this is a redemption race for the team, who are relatively inexperienced adventure racers. Two are new to expedition racing and none knew how to navigate or paddles two years ago! This is a great result for an up and coming team. The team of Romy Viale (France) , Mariana Pontes, Guillaume Habouzit and Daniel Franquin lead for most of the race and reached the finish line at São Francisco de Paula last night to take the title and win a place at the World Championship in Ecuador later in the year. They received a warm welcome from the Race Director Benito Brocca and his family, who have been helping on the race as part of a dedicated team supporting all of the racers. They will be on the finish line ready to receive all of the teams, who will continue to finish for the next 2 to 3 days. The penulitimate stage at Malacara Race is the 55km packraft though a maze of rivers and lakes, offering multiple places to decide whether to continue by foot or in the rafts. Aksa Expenature fr were the first team to set off and the weather was wet, making conditions muddy and difficult in the night. They had about a 3 hour lead over BOA Brasil Outdoor. Behind them Kamadona and Lagartixa had trouble on the previous ride due to the muddy tracks and finally set off on the packraft stage in daylight. The video follows Lagartixa, who are in 3rd place, at the start of the stage. Team AKSA .fr were the first to arrive at TA8 on the Malacara Race and begin the big packrafting stage. The weather has turned wet and they set off in the night for the 55km stage, which should take around 14 hours, if all goes well. This is the most challenging stage of the race and teams will need to navigate well and make good choices between paddling and trekking. The stage 6 ride at Malacara Race is a long one at 93km, riding on remote mountain roads through the forested landscape. The leaders are currently on this stage with Aksa Expenature.fr keeping their lead (though their tracker has stopped working).
