🌸For those of you who've been to our TweedByron camp, this gorgeous smiling face will be no stranger to you, but if you haven't had the pleasure, please let us introduce to you the very lovely Gretchen Hambly. Gretchen runs our peer to peer group day for the siblings that are in our camp program. She has been instrumental in the great success of this program and is in the process of moulding and fine tuning the program to make it better than ever. It takes a special kind of person to evoke emotion and open up kind conversations and honest feelings around having an Autistic brother or sister. But Gretchen does so with a subtle elegance honing in on her experience as an Art Therapist to allow the walls to come down and hearts to open and words to flow. She's also made a few guest appearances at our Sunny Coast Camp sharing her warmth and passion for the work she does. In April this year we were delighted to be able to utilise Gretchen's skillset to launch a creative based workshop which we added to the Parents program at our NSW camp. It has been nothing short of pure wonder and a great release for many parents and guardians. Gretchen we LOVE you and the work you do, its work that doesn't finish at the end of the day, it lingers long after camp is over.🌸

🌸It never ceases to amaze us just how lucky we are to have such incredibly talented and passionate humans in our teams. Gretchen brings so much depth to our NSW program, just as our other facilitators do too in our other locations. Everyone that works at camp is a one of a kind soul, dedicated to making a difference in the lives of the Autistic young people and their whole family. It's more than just a job, and often its not even work as such but the sharing of self, knowledge and skills, to create a space for growth and nurturing.🌸

We would love to hear about your experiences of early childhood intervention.

Kindred is hosting consultations for families of children with developmental delay and disability who have participated in early childhood intervention. This includes having worked together with therapists, such as speech therapists or occupational therapists to help promote your child’s development. We are especially keen to hear from parents of children aged 0 to 12 years old.

Register for an upcoming consultation session below:

📆Mon 26 Aug, 7:30 pm
https://events.humanitix.com/bestpractice2608

📆Mon 16 Sep, 7:30 pm AEST / NSW Time
https://events.humanitix.com/bestpractice1609

This consultation is part of a review of best practice in early childhood intervention being undertaken by a consortium led by the University of Melbourne and funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services.

The review will produce a new best practice framework, resources and tools to help practitioners, professionals and families ensure all children with developmental concerns, delay or disability have the best possible start in life.

Sunny Coast teens, this looks kinda fun!

❤️💙💚🧡We are truly grateful to this lovely soul who has made an extremely generous donation that is sure to provide hours of enjoyment and foster creativity at camp! Who doesn’t LOVE Lego? It’s a massive draw card at camp for children who want to build and construct masterpieces. 🛳️🗼🛩️🚁🚂🚔🛵

📣Three mighty big cheers for Peter, a keen Lego collector and enthusiast who stumbled upon our charity and after some research decided he wanted to donate a chunk of his incredible collection so that it could be enjoyed by our participants 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 So incredibly thoughtful and kind Peter, we really can’t thank you enough 🫶🏽

💰As a charity we rely on the generosity of kindhearted souls, just like Peter. Golly gosh, this one, it's a real tear jerker! Especially when you know just how long Kirsty and her family had been talking to us at ACA before coming to camp - literally years! Isolation and living in remote regions makes accessing resources that much more tricky, but this family are so incredibly amazing, having been to both our WA camps they are now making the epic journey east to take part in our QLD Spring camp program. We cant wait to scoop them up and help create more ACA camp magic. It truly is the lasting affects of camp, the incredible bonds and friendships that are formed and the life changing benefits that are felt by all that we value so much.

The last remaining SPRING camp spots are OPEN and available to enrol in today - don't wait, jump on board the ACA happy train, you'll never regret it https://www.autismcampaustralia.org/register-your-interest

🚂The whole family excursion on the Bellarine Railway is one of the unique highlights of our Victorian camp in the beautiful seaside village of Queenscliff. Setting off from Swan Bay this historic railway trip runs through remnant bushland with stunning views of Swan Bay that morph into pastures exposing farmland of yesteryears with rustic machinery, buildings and points of interests dotted all along the way. Spot the elusive camel in a game of eye spy for bonus round points, gaze out on the scenic view or play a round of uno with friends new and old. Hang with the family or among the camp crew, its an all inclusive excursion that gets the group buzzing with excitement as you chug chug chug along the line till you reach Point Lonsdale where the group disembarks for some afternoon tea and run around the playground before boarding again for the return trip back to camp.

Unique to our VIC camp, this family excursion is a real bonus for families with children outside of the camp program, as they get to join in and really feel included in the camp vibe, it's just magical! A complete highlight in a program already filled with highlights, this one truly hits the spot when it comes to inclusiveness and connection as it offers something for everyone to share.🚂

Its a real Flashback Friday moment this morning as we travel back in time to our very first ACA VIC camp in sunny Queenscliff. What a cracker of a camp that was, and an ACA camp initiation just wouldn't be the same without a bout of sponge games aka sponge wars. Since this first camp the VIC team have levelled up the playing field and have a finally tuned event which is a spectacle to admire with a bubbly waterslide to cap off all the silliness and fun! This team really go above and beyond when it comes to innovation and creativity.

Sponge games is just one of the inclusive activities that will help your Autistic young person find their groove at camp and form bonds and connections with the other participants and our camp crew, because they're all in it together.

We have a few spots left at our VIC Spring time camp program - DONT MISS THE FUN! Register your interest today and one of our team will help you on your way to a magical adventure! https://www.autismcampaustralia.org/register-your-interest

Thrilled to be involved in the Fearless Homeschool Neurodiversity Home schooling Summit that's going LIVE from July 29-31. So many awesome speakers sharing their knowledge and insight over three big days. We even have one of our own ACA campions onboard to speak about finding and thriving in your community, a topic that is truly near and dear to our hearts.

The Summit was curated for home schooling…. BUT because home schooling is just an extension of parenting… many of the strategies and workshops will be relevant for anyone parenting, caring or working with Neurodivergent children, teens or adults. So there really is something for everyone.

Don't miss any of the action! Tickets are super reasonably priced at just $37. Can't join live - no problem the summit will be recorded and you'll have 6 months to catch up on all the workshops and watch them at your leisure.

You can register you place via the link below
https://acasummit--fearlesshomeschool.thrivecart.com/neurodiversity-homeschooling-summit/

Can't wait to see you all at the Summit 🤓

We LOVE all our camp locations, each are unique and offer a fabulous program. One of the TOP PICKS that is unique to the VIC camp program is our pizza making workshop. The children are shown how to make wood fired pizzas from scratch and are involved in the whole process from start to finish - and YES that means choosing their own toppings and enjoying a bountiful feast of scrummy pizza for lunch!! 🍕🍕🍕

Our Spring Camp dates are OPEN for enrolment and we want you and your family to experience the magic of Queenscliff in the Spring time. You can register your interest here https://www.autismcampaustralia.org/register-your-interest and one of team will guide you through the enrolment process.

Gotta love a Friday, the end of the working week and for us, we are 4 AMAZING winter camps down and 1 magical winter camp to go! So relishing in the warmth, love and connection that's been forged this winter at camp.

In celebration of all the goodness, we'd love to share with you this interview with the super lovey Alana who came along to camp not knowing exactly what to expect and was pleasantly surprised by the level of acceptance, support and community that she and her son experienced at camp. That sense of belonging to something kinda wonderful, something better than you could've imagined.

11/07/2024

Always reaching for new heights, great challenges and happy head space - come join us at camp, where magic happens ✨

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade 🍋 and when rain hampers your plans, dig deep and go underground-well pseudo underground in a replica cave!

Yup the Sunny Coast wasn’t always so sunny this winter and plans had to change. Adapting your change can be challenging for our young people in camp, especially when their hearts are set on a certain activity. But luckily our quick thinking team were able to come up with a solution that kept the smiles coming 😀😀

Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre have the most amazing facilities and the indoor caving facility certainly ticks all the boxes when it comes to creating happy memories and soothing disappointment!

Did you find to our Sunny Coast camp this winter? How much FUN did you have?

08/07/2024

😀It was all smiles at our NSW camp when our long term Carer Jake delivered a bunch of beautiful ukuleles that were generously donated by the Northern Rivers Conservatorium in Lismore. Jake who has a long standing relationship with the Con, graciously accepted the donation on ACA’s behalf and the Uke’s were put straight to good use with Jake implementing his dream of teaching our carer team to play some simple cords and songs so they could then pass this skills on to the children at camp 🎶🎵🎶

We’re are day 3 of the first NSW winter camp and by all reports the new instruments are creating a harmonious vibe with many budding ukulele enthusiasts emerging from the group, and we mean both children AND carers alike! Music is a wonderful gift to share and to enjoy together and really helps to soothe and bring the group together. 🎶🤍🎶🤍

BIG shoutout to the Northern Rivers Conservatorium for this amazing gift, it’s a gift that will keep on giving 🫶🏽 And thanks to Jake for sharing his magical musical teaching skills and talent. Jake regularly leads and inspires music jams at camp and effortlessly inspires and encourages our team to bring their talent to the group-our carers really are the bees knees 🐝🐝🐝

👀 Watch this space as we share more images of the children at camp getting down and jamming this winter ❄️

Autism Camp Australia is go!

My nine year old daughter is autistic, and so am I. I believe my most important job, as a parent, is to advocate for my daughter, and other families like ours. With this in mind, I decided to set up a new charity called www.autismcampaustralia.org

ACA’s mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of autistic young people and their families through the provision of accessible and supported therapies, education, self-care and life skills development. Our vision is self-reliance, independence, social connection and community inclusion.

We have developed a program which enables
· autistic young people to take part in a program of therapies, social learning and life skills activities;
· autistic young people to build connections easily by socialising with their peers;
· autistic young people to explore sensory and emotional regulation in a dedicated sensory and proprioceptive space;
· siblings to take part in a program of outdoor activities and adventure challenges and a peer-to-peer sibling support program; and
· parents to enjoy a respite break (while the children are in activities between 9am-4pm) and take part in a parent/carer educational support and self-care program.

We have a fully equipped sensory/proprioceptive marquee at the camp for downtime.
