Wylesco the Highlander
This is a journey of myself as I prepare for my first ever Highland season.
This is also a place to try new things, share ideas, and share accolades with the community as we push each other to be better today than we were yesterday.
These photos turned out great as did the show this week.
Last night I added some jump rope to my routine. I was impressed by Hafthor’s use of it as of late and was desperate for some cardio. So I added a 1 minute jump rope before training and 1 minute at the end. It has been a long time since my calf’s have been this sore. Going to have to keep it up.
When I was younger I felt the same way as this guy. I always wanted to go to the mountains and see if I could survive, see if I could make my life something for me, and mostly find some silence from the crazy that was my life. I would never do something like this now but I do feel that it might be time to simplify and cut out some of the noise.
I am placing this photo here to show myself and everyone else what hard work can do to the body. Hafthor is an amazing specimen of what hard work can accomplish my best of 130 kg is nothing compared to his massive lifts.
Enjoy your Sunday everyone. Remember rest is one of the fastest ways to see results. Try to take this day as a rest day and you will see some of those pesky problem areas start to fade away.
After yesterday's day off of working out I felt amazing at the gym today. Breezed through my workout and felt way stronger than I have in a long time. Looking forward to Saturday and Sunday's workout.
One of the pluses that I have found in regards to an upper/lower split is the flexibility to take a day off.
Today I woke up and was mentally preparing to go to the gym but my body was craving sleep. Instead of getting up and forcing a workout I chose to get three hours of sleep. This was very beneficial as the past few days have been very stressful and the extra sleep seems to have helped me out a lot.
Through my studies I have found that sleep is a time for your body to repair itself. It is a time for new tissues to be made and for your body to replenish itself. This is especially important when you are trying to build muscle as it is prime time for your body to start to build up what it needs. There is a study that I cam across that talked about how just increasing your sleep will help you gain better muscle definition and increase your health.
That is why I don't feel bad about taking a morning off and getting some extra sleep. I also have the opportunity to go to the gym tomorrow and then push my other days back to Saturday/Sunday. Again a great bonus of doing a split with built in rest days.

Spinach and chicken with ranch. Can’t ever go wrong with this!!!!
I decided to try something different with my today. I wanted to share the best parts of my training with you all and also try and create something that may help more people than only the gymrats and scottish heavy athletes.
Today we talk about goals. We talk about how they can help you push yourself harder than you knew possible and also have the ability to make it so that you are able to reach new levels in your day to day. I hope you all enjoy.

Goals Have Magical Powers After a hard day at work I took some frustrations out on my sheaf. I threw it in the air over and over trying to get it to go over a backstop at a local scho...
In the video later today we will be looking at where I am at right now. I will be sharing some of my insecurities but also the plan that I have to get over it and move beyond.
I decided that the way that I will be making this page stand out is by sharing how I am an average person who is trying to do some above average things. It has been a lot of fun to see my body change in only a couple of months as I add some exercise to my life and I am excited to see where this body of mine goes in the future.
Sometimes the only way to grow is to share a bit of yourself with other people. Here I am trying to grow today and tomorrow we will really grow.
Obligatory Gym Selfie.
Finally achieved the hip flexibility needed to do a full back squat. Just need to keep up the stretching so I don’t lose it. Sometimes it sucks being tall..
There is nothing like looking at your body and seeing its faults. Today was one of those days where all I wanted to say was "Screw It" and stop all the hard work. Up 5 pounds from the beginning of the week especially after cutting out some of my favorite foods and beverages is like a slap in the face. Oh well time to reset, reevaluate, and reestablish my goals.
We have all seen them! We have all been one of these lifters, the challenge is dealing with them and not laughing at them in their presence. Of course I am talking about the Ego Lifter. You know the one that takes up all the weight from 3 machines to load his leg press, the one that grunts on every single rep as if he/she were setting a world record in whatever exercise they are doing. This video is a small rant on why these folks but me.
I tried a different style today in filming that hopefully brought out more of my personality. Let me know what you think below in the comments.
Instead of doing a vlog today I decided to finally put together my Cheyenne Celtic Bison reel. I am most proud of the caber toss on this one as it is the best I’ve ever done but my sheaf was a huge disappointment as I couldn’t figure out where to stand on this one.
Sometimes just showing up is the hardest part of your day. Big thanks to Josh Einfalt for the fancy intro to this series, I think it turned out really good.
Today’s Vlog was not the highest quality so I chose to just uploaded it to YouTube. I will gladly share the link of any of you want it but it is not my best work so I opted to keep it on that platform.
One of the biggest weaknesses I have as a lifter is the back squat. No matter how much I try I have never been able to reach full range of motion in the squat. I have been working really hard on this over the last few weeks but still have not been able to break parallel on my squats on a consistent basis. I have read a few articles mostly around using front squats or utilizing the pause on the squat. I will be trying some of these variations soon in my training as I really want to gain the full benefit of the squat and not be that guy that does half squats and looks like a poser in the weight room. One day at a time is something that I have to tell myself quite often on this journey as fitness is something that you can't rush, it is a process not a final destination.
Squats for Tall Lifters - A Complete Set-up Guide Rob Merriweather shows tall squatters how to set up their hand and bar placement, foot width, and how to structure their assistance work.
Sometimes in life we have to make tough decisions. Sometimes they are for our health and sometimes they are in regards to our lifestyle. Today I made the decision to have my body fat analyzed through hydrostatic weighing. I share the results of this in the video. I also had to say goodbye to one of my happy places today. I know I’ll be able to go back at some point but Jiujitsu is unfortunately not something I am able to do at this time.
Walking has always been one of the greatest things that I do to help with overall sense of being. Today was no different and I challenge each of you to go take a walk.
After yesterday’s issues with my hip in the gym I decided to do a video showing three simple stretches to help with that. 1. Hip Flexor lunge 2. Butterfly 3. Frog
I will be adding these to my daily routine to see if I can regain some mobility in my hips.
Today is Vlogtober Day 2. Still going strong with this creating stuff. I realized today while working out that I had some serious problems with hip mobility and figure it is because I have been back at work. We touch on this in this episode. Tomorrow we will be looking at how to counter some of that lack of flexibility with some of my favorite stretches for your hips.
Today while I was at the gym I realized that my lack of hip mobility, probably due to being at work full time once more which severely limits my movement breaks, I was unable to achieve full range of motion for squats and lunges. In an effort to better understand how to create better mobility and range of motion I did some research and found this article/video from Stack.com that I am going to be trying in an effort to increase mobility and lengthen the range of motion for my squats.

I’m just a rambling man, I have no scripts to hold me down. Sorry for going off the rails on this one. Practice makes perfect right? I promise by Halloween I’ll be good at this.
I almost bought one today. His “Strong and Pretty” clothing line might be one of my favorite shirt designs I’ve seen made.
We’re back at it and raising money to eradicate breast cancer!! Snag one of these beautiful shirts at the link below and help us out!!

October Goals:
I have been thinking about what I should do to try and push myself to be better at this whole social media thing. I like how I have been posting pictures, workouts, links to articles, etc... but I do think that I can do more to share my journey. So for the month of October, except for the weekend before 10/14 and the day of 10/14, I will be working on creating original content in the form of posts, articles, and vlogs every day. Let's see if we can make this month a month of growth.
Now that I have shared this goal with you all I would ask one thing from you. If you like my content in any way as you come across it... please hit that thumbs up, heart, etc... If I make you think in any way or you have any questions comment on those posts, let's get this community communicating. And last.... if you think any of these posts could help out someone else.... please share it. We were taught in our youth that sharing is caring and that is especially true here in the universe of social media.
