**Savory Oatmeal Recipe*** Start your morning with a comforting and flavorful bowl of Savory Oatmeal.* **Ingredients:** - 1/3 cup old-fashioned oats - 2/3 cup water - Garlic Powder, to taste - Smoked Paprika, to taste - Red Pepper Flakes, to taste - Black Pepper, to taste **Toppings:** - 1 Egg - 1 Shallot, finely sliced. - 1 Clove of Garlic, finely sliced - 2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil - Smoked Paprika - Garlic Powder - Black Pepper - Coconut Aminos, to taste - Parsley, for garnish **Instructions:** 1. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine old-fashioned oats, water, and seasonings. Microwave in 45-second intervals until desired consistency is reached (approximately 2 minutes). 2. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add shallot, garlic, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper. Cook until shallot and garlic are softened (about 3-5 minutes). 3. Clear a space in the skillet for the egg, adding another tablespoon of olive oil if needed. Crack the egg into the space and cook to your preference. 4. Once the oatmeal and toppings are ready, assemble by placing the cooked toppings on top of the oatmeal. Sprinkle with additional smoked paprika, garnish with parsley, and add coconut aminos for a sweet umami flavor. 5. Maxx turns 10 today, 2/11/24! Maxx is my soul cat. My partner and I adopted him in September of 2015 from the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk, Maine about a month after my beloved SJK passed away. As soon as Maxx saw me he reached out from the kennel he was in and made it clear that he was the one. We came in looking for a short-haired female cat and left with a long-haired boy that stole my heart. We had thought that Maxx might want a friend, in 2021 we adopted Daxx and it was only a week before Maxx started grooming Daxx and they bonded! Maxx turned out to be the most patient-loving big brother a kitten could ask for! Hey there! Exciting news - Kung Fu Tea has opened their first location in Maine! If you’re a fan of bubble tea, you absolutely have to check it out. But that’s not all - they’ve also got a TKK that serves up fried chicken and various sides. When I went, I ordered the Cat Noir’s Cocoa Cataclysm for myself, and a pistachio milk tea with brown sugar boba for my partner. And let me tell you, they did not disappoint. I also grabbed a 3-piece chicken tender, To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the chicken, but it ended up being incredibly flavorful. Next time, I’ll definitely have to try some of their sides too! Unfortunately I forgot to snap a pics of everything (oops). Just a heads up, if you plan on stopping by soon, be prepared to wait a bit. They just opened up their doors on Sunday (2/4/24), so they’re still working out a few kinks. I recently ordered takeout from one of my favorite restaurants Taj Indian Cuisine, located at 200 Gotham Road in South Portland, ME. I was thrilled to see the packaging for their delicious mango lassi, a mango and yogurt beverage. I also ordered Samosas Chaat, which are vegetable samosas topped with a hot chickpea sauce, raw onions, tomatoes, tamarind sauce, and yogurt, and sprinkled with Aloo Bhujia (the little crispy noodles). For the main course, I had Butter Chicken which comes with Basmati rice, for an additional charge you can substitute the rice for Vegetable Biryani which I had done earlier in the week( Yes, it's THAT good I had it twice in on week!). Butter chicken has always been a favorite of mine and I would even call it a comfort food and a gateway food for those that are not familiar with Indian cuisine. Pro tip: For an extra treat, add paneer cheese to the already rich and creamy butter chicken. I love the texture and taste of paneer cheese. Have you ever visited the Taj or ordered takeout from there? If so, what is your favorite dish? If you haven't tried Taj yet, I highly suggest dining in, their hospitality is exceptional. They also offer a very affordable lunch buffet from 11 AM to 2:15 PM, it's a great way to find your new favorite dish. 🚨New Restaurant Alert!🚨 I had the pleasure of dining at Kume Sushi & Lounge last night for an early dinner. The restaurant has a fantastic aesthetic that gives off a ‘fancy pants’ vibe, but what surprised me the most were the affordable prices! As I approached the entrance, I was greeted by a giant red sumo wrestler statue, which instantly brought a smile to my face. The sushi rolls at Kume Sushi & Lounge were perfectly bite-sized, making them easy to enjoy. To my surprise, even the non-alcoholic drinks came with whipped cream and sprinkles, adding a fun and whimsical touch to the dining experience. One dish that stood out to me was the basil chicken. It was absolutely delicious and I would highly recommend it, even though it wasn’t my main dish. However, the beef negimaki didn’t quite meet our expectations and wasn’t to our taste. The only critique I have is regarding the timing of the dishes. My partner received their miso soup and salad before our appetizer was served. Then, my sushi arrived before my partner’s main dish. It would be great if they could work on improving the timing of the dishes. Despite this, the servers were quick and very attentive throughout our meal. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Kume Sushi & Lounge and I’m already looking forward to going back and trying more dishes. The combination of the restaurant’s aesthetic, affordable prices, and delicious food make it a must-visit for sushi lovers. Join me and my partner Kevin for my birthday dinner at Fore Street Restaurant in Portland, Maine. I enjoyed my usual extra dirty Tito’s vodka martini (salty like the sea), while Kevin opted for a Dark and Stormy. We started with the delectable wood oven-roasted Maine Mussels, accompanied by plenty of fresh bread to soak up the flavorful broth. For our main courses, I savored the delightful Skate Wing Meuniere, a new and delicious experience for me. Kevin indulged in the smoky and succulent wood-grilled Pineland Farms Hanger Steak, which he graciously allowed me to sample. Our sides included the rustic and creamy Aroostook County Garlic Mashed Potatoes, as well as the wood oven-roasted baby carrots with a honey gastrique and hazelnuts. To conclude our meal, we treated ourselves to the exquisite Meyer Lemon cream pie, accompanied by a satisfying decaf coffee. Now it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! I was gifted one of the three beautiful Mekhong Thai Rum Fruitcakes from Boda “Very Thai” restaurant and bar, in Portland, Maine. Let me tell you, this is not just any ordinary fruitcake. It is a masterpiece of flavors and aesthetics, so stunning that it almost felt wrong to slice into it. Friends, this is the only fruitcake that I have ever enjoyed. I am immensely grateful to Boda for this extraordinary treat.
