It is nearly time for summer skating! This year it will be community lead. A group chat will be made on either WhatsApp or FB Messenger for skaters to connect with each other to skate the Sumner-Redcliffs path, the New Brighton Pier, Avon Loop or other skate tracks around Canterbury. Keep an eye on socials for more details!

August | What's Coming Up! 🛼🪩 As winter draws to a close, we’re heading into August with excitement here at Canterbury Skating Academy. Despite the chilly days, our community has stayed energised, and our sessions have been buzzing with enthusiasm.

How Do You Sk8 The ultimate Podcast for all skating enthusiasts! We cater to everyone, from beginners to pros, whether you love inline and ice skating or prefer quads and skateboarding.

Learn to Skate Classes every Friday!
Join the roller skating movement and learn everything from skating forwards, through to jumps and spins. Our goal is to increase your confidence and ultimately make sure you’re enjoying yourself (safely!)

Our classes are for all ages and abilities.
6pm Beginners
6:30pm Intermediate

Class not for you? Open Skate is your time to skate, practice, socialise or spend some quality alone time. From 7:15pm - 8:30pm

Friday Night Skaters!
There is going to be movement around the Avon Hub as the new Ferndale School grounds are starting development next door. Entrance to the Avon Hub remains the same off North Parade.

The parking onsite will be limited but there is still parking available on the road side. Please aim to arrive 5min earlier than usual tomorrow to accomodate any parking delays.

Classes are on as usual tomorrow:
6pm beginners
6:30pm intermediate
7:15pm open skate 🥳

Email from Kate at the Avon Hub about the new parking and access situation.

“Kia ora

I have been advised today that we are losing our shingle carpark area tomorrow, Thursday 8 AUG. This work has been pushed forward as we were expecting it to start a bit later in September.

If you are arriving for Avon Hub at 4pm onwards then I would suggest using either the school car park at Pareawa Banks Avenue or parking on the eastern side of North Parade

Car parking will be limited at Avon Hub on the sealed area.

Once the works are completed, we will hope to have an arrangement with the new Ferndale School to use their carpark after 4pm as well.

Down the line, they will build a two-way entry exit from North Parade northwards beside the outdoor courts but the timeline for this is uncertain.”

We are back skating tomorrow night at the Avon Hub!
There are 2 spaces left in the beginner class and 6 in the Intermediate class.

🛼 Beginner class: This week we will focus on the basics, and two-foot jumps and cone skills as our extra-for-experts.
🛼 Intermediate class: We will start with cone warm-ups, and ease into two-foot jumps or optional backward one-foot balancing. If you want to practice your spins from 2 weeks ago then we'll make that an option depending on the vibe!

All ages are welcome! Skate hire is available from US1 to US14.

Timetable Change 🛼 Please Read! Term 3 Classes are starting from Monday 29th July. You can register online or just reply to this email for more information. We’d love to see you back for term 3!Skate hire is available for all classes from sizes US1 to US14Term classes are for children aged 5 to 13 years of age.

Reminder that term classes start next week ⭐️

An email has been sent out to all ticket holders for the 21st September Roller Disco as the council have requested our booking time to be reduced by 90 minutes. The next Disco will run from 4:30pm to 6pm. I will change event details to reflect these alterations.

For those following along with the NZ Champs! My club has finished for the week 😮‍💨 it’s been a roller coaster!

If you’re interested in Artistic Skating more on the competitive and skill side, the club will be starting its KiwiSkate program in Term 4 at the Lincoln Event Centre on Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30pm. This will hopefully kick start our club with getting keen skaters into both the recreational and competitive pathways 🖤❤️ DM or have a chat to me if you’ve got any questions about joining the club
