Sureena Brackenridge - Wolverhampton NE

My name is Sureena Brackenridge, and I’m your Labour Candidate for the next General Election.

Photos from Sureena Brackenridge - Wolverhampton NE's post 28/01/2024

Spent another weekend connecting with residents on their doorsteps, and the message is clear: the Cost of Living, the state of our NHS, and the lack of Police / Law and Order - are the pressing concerns

A conversation with a lifelong Conservative supporter echoed the sentiment of many: ”They do not deserve my vote. We need change.”

It's palpable - door after door, there's a call for a general election, a call for change. The Labour Party stands ready to serve. Committed to leading Britain towards a decade of national renewal. 🌹

We had an incredibly moving evening at the City of Wolverhampton I Awards yesterday, with Chris Burden - Labour Councillor for Fallings Park.

Celebrating the outstanding achievements of children and young people in care and care leavers. Well done to all the award winners for their hard work, resilience, and success against all odds!

Thank you to everyone tirelessly working to break down barriers and pave the way for a brighter future. 🌟

Remembering Holocaust Memorial Day.

A day to honour the millions of lives lost during one of the darkest chapters in history – the Holocaust. We should never forget the atrocities that occurred.

Let's ensure that the stories of those who suffered and perished are remembered, so that we stand against hatred and division and build a future rooted in unity and respect.

It’s been a long day, but I’m on my way home on an unusually quiet tram after an insightful event about the British Sikh Report - 10th Anniversary.

The BSR is a detailed study into the experiences of Sikhs across the country, including Wolverhampton and Willenhall.

Many of us will not be surprised to hear that concerns around the cost of living, community policing, youth violence, and the NHS are high on the list.

Many of the issues raised here tonight will affect numerous people across our communities. The solution lies in a change of government. Time for a fresh start 🌹

Watch live: Sir Keir Starmer speech on plans for ‘society of service’ 23/01/2024

I was delighted to hear Keir Starmer give credit to Wolverhampton Wrestling Club in a speech highlighting the crucial role that community groups and charities play.
(See clip - just after 13 mins)

Wolverhampton NE is stronger for the extraordinary voluntary groups we have nestled in our communities. I see their selfless service firsthand as they work tirelessly to support others in the face of growing pressures and demands.

Keir recognises the value and importance of the extraordinary work that dedicated volunteers carry out day in and day out. However, it’s time for a government to step up, to work in partnership, as charities, faith groups, and community organisations should not bear the burden alone.

Time to reset the social contract. Time for Politics to serve others. Time for a fresh start🌹

A chilly🥶Saturday and a stormy💨🍃Sunday, but a really warm welcome on the doorstep across Wolverhampton and Willenhall. Refueled today with a hot plate of cheesy beans on toast 😋

Lots of residents sharing concerns with the struggling NHS. Residents languishing on waiting lists for life changing operations, struggling to find a Dentist, or scrambling at 8:00 am to get a GP appointment.

One resident referred to last Thursday’s BBC Question Time, highlighting the Conservative MP’s comments blaming doctors and nurses for the record-high waiting lists. Waiting lists have been increasing year after year. Let's stop blaming the doctors and nurses who are exhausted, working without the value or respect they deserve.

Tory MP paid £900 an hour by bribery suspect’s weapons firm 21/01/2024

Conservative MP for Wrekin is set to earn £900 an hour from a North Macedonian weapons company. Admitting he will be paid £9000 a month.

This has to stop. Labour will ban MPs using their positions to chase corporate cash through second jobs, no matter what party they represent. An MPs full focus should be on the people they serve.

Rishi Sunak dismissed UK-wide medicine shortages as a mere constituency issue when challenged by Charlotte Nichols MP for Warrington.

This is not just a Warrington issue. Wolverhampton and Willenhall residents are facing unprecedented medicine shortages putting lives at risk. Lots of residents have expressed profound concerns to me as they go from one pharmacy to another in search of a store with available stock.

Medicines on the shortages list include; Drugs to treat cancer, epilepsy, type-2 diabetes, ADHD and some vital antibiotics.

Medicine shortages in the UK have doubled in the past two years, with pharmacists and health charities raising alarm.

Rishi should urgently task his Health Secretary to work with Pharmaceutical companies, NHS, Charities and health bodies to tackle another example of Broken Britain.

Labour's Child Health Action Plan will create the healthiest generation of children ever – The Labour Party 16/01/2024

How we treat our children is a measure of society; a mirror to the values and priorities of the nation.

It’s time to step up. Health and education inequalities have increased over the last 14 years of Conservative governments.

Labour's Child Health Action Plan is an investment in the future of Britain:

📉 Cut waiting lists for children
🧠 A mental health counsellor in every secondary school
🍏 Breakfast clubs for all primary school children
🦷 Transform NHS dentistry
🫁 Banning vapes from being branded and advertised to appeal to children
🍔 Ban junk food advertising to children
🦠Protect children from the growth of infectious diseases
📚 commitment to early years education, secondary curriculum reform and a rejuvenation of skills & training

Rising Crime and anti-social behaviour has been the number one concern raised by residents this weekend across Wolverhampton NE

Victims are paying the price after 14 years of Conservative governments that have failed to invest to keep us safe. Cuts have consequences!

West Midlands Police had to find £28 million of cuts last year and this year a further £21 million. Around 1,000 less officers of where we were in 2010.

A labour government will get The Local Bobby back on the beat with a Community Policing Guarantee.🌹

👮13,000 more police & PCSOs on the streets
👮‍♂️A named police officer for every community
👮‍♀️A dedicated lead focused specifically on tackling anti-social behaviour.

Dental Despair in Wolverhampton NE: An unprecedented shortage.

Dental Practice data in Wolverhampton NE shows 9 out of 10 are not taking on new adult patients. 6 out of 10 are not taking on patients under the age of 17.

This worrying issue comes up time and again on the doorstep. NHS dentistry is “at its most perilous point in its 75-year history”, according to the Nuffield Trust.

🌹Labour will rescue NHS Dentistry from its brink by:

🦷 700,000 more urgent dentistry appointments
🧑‍⚕️ Incentives to recruit dentists to the areas most in need like Wolverhampton NE
🪥Supervised toothbrushing in schools for three- to five-year-olds
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Reform of the NHS dental contract so everyone who needs a dentist can get one

The failure of the Conservative government to get a grip on school absence rates continues to frustrate many of us working in our schools.

1 in 5 children are regularly absent with the figure looking to rise to 1 in 4. The Conservative government had been warned time and again.

The Conservatives sticky plaster response includes a total of 32 attendance hubs across the country, however this equates to fewer than 1 in 10 schools.

Bridget Phillipson outlines how a Labour government will support schools to work with parents/carers. Such as a Mental Health Counsellor in EVERY secondary school, Free breakfast clubs in EVERY primary school.

There is much to be done to restore the bond between parents/carers and schools. So many of the issues we face in our schools could have been prevented if the government had accepted the recommendations of Sir Kevan Collins back in 2021 - Former Education Recovery Commissioner. Unfortunately for our children, the Conservatives chose not too.

The Conservatives must get a grip on this; otherwise, society will pay a big price for this Conservative failure.

Together we will rebuild our communities in 2024.

Time for change. Time for a fresh start. Let’s get Britain’s future back🌹

🎉Wolverhampton to host the Kabaddi World Cup Final 2025.🎉

Millions from around the world will have their eyes 👀 fixed on Wolverhampton next year with media crews descending on Aldersley Leisure Centre for the quarterfinals and The Halls for the semifinals and final. Preliminary stages to be held in Walsall and the wider WM region. A much needed boost for the local economy.

As Mayoress, I had the privilege of welcoming teams from across Europe for the inaugural Kabaddi League to Wolverhampton in 2022 and was invited to provide commentary for BBC sport on two matches in 2023. What a competition!

I will continue to support Wolverhampton Wrestling Club introducing Kabaddi into schools across our city, providing youth an opportunity to discover this exciting sport, stay healthy and uncover hidden talents. Despite the Great British weather ☔️🌧💨🍃 lots of residents took time to share their views and a clear support for a fresh start. Thank you for your kind supportive words.

Together we can reshape our communities in 2024🌹

As the clock strikes midnight, let's usher in a New Year filled with hope, renewal and ambition!

Just before Christmas, I met with Angela Rayner MP, to share directly what I hear on the doorsteps from residents across Wolverhampton and Willenhall. Our dedication to transform the lives of people in our communities, remains unwavering.

In 2024, we have the power to reshape our communities. Here's to a year where hope for better triumphs.

I wish you all a Happy New Year! 🌹🎉

Post-Christmas blast - Great to be back on the campaign after a couple of days rest.

Thank you to the team for joining me, battling the rain and wind, determined to bring the change we need in Wolverhampton🌹

25/12/2023

Wishing you all a Happy Christmas.

Thank you to all those who are working today to protect & care for us. From the NHS, our armed forces to the emergency services & beyond.

The Christmas story reminds us that hope is always worth advocating for.

From all of us at the Labour Party, we wish you and your family a very happy Christmas.

Merry Christmas everyone🎄🧡🖤🎄

Has anyone else left far too much for last minute Christmas shopping?

Dropped off the leftovers from yesterday’s Food Bank in Short Heath to Tony at Low Hill Community Centre with the amazing Aaron and Kayla.

I have around two hours to hit the shops. Wish me luck 😂🎁🎅🏃‍♀️

If you live in or near to Willenhall, get in touch with Hands To Help You based Upper Floor Willenhall Library. Tracie Mcmeekin and the team work incredibly hard to help others.

We must work hard to make sure Food Banks are not an accepted normal in our communities. Struggling to feed yourself or your family should never be normalised.

There are those among us who step up to help others when they need it most.🖤🧡

People like Aaron and Kayla and the pop up Food Bank volunteers today at Holy Trinity church in Short Heath. Not surprising they are all NHS and armed forces personnel.

I was proud to be part of the support team that gave hot food and drinks on the day with food and a gift to take home for Christmas.

Advice was on hand from a local councillor to assist with the various challenges people were having. All those months of hard work, fundraising and sourcing necessities that many take for granted made many lives a little better. It was emotional listening to their stories.

It is sad that this is necessary in the UK today, but a huge thanks to all volunteers who protect the vulnerable. We would be in a very different place without you.

Yesterday’s Veterans in the community annual Christmas lunch saw branches from Bilston, Wolverhampton and Wednesfield come together to enjoy great company.

It was a delightful afternoon, catching up with friends from various veteran support groups, all dedicated to the well-being of brave soldiers, sailors, airmen and women. I’m always privileged to be in their company. Veterans will always have my support.

We are grateful of the selfless service and dedication of the volunteers who organise these events in our communities and are a bedrock of support to the Veterans.

Thank you to Kim and the team for organising such a lovely event.
Merry Christmas 🎄

Waiting times for children and young people to receive mental health support is a national scandal. More than 270,000 waited longer than three months or had their cases closed.

Labour will make very different choices in government. I know firsthand what difference this will make in schools across Wolverhampton NE.

A&Es are bursting with patients who wouldn’t be there if they could access good support and GP services before reaching crisis point. Have the Conservatives not heard that ‘Prevention is better than cure?’

When the pandemic hit, so many scrambled to help others - health workers, police, firefighters, teachers, social workers, retail staff and so many more.

Attention friends of the furry kind. 🐶🦴🐾

Your little paw pals will want you to check out a great small business at Brackendale shops in Short Heath. I dropped by K9 Chef with Richard Parker for West Mids Mayor and Streetwatch volunteer Simon Rollason Short Heath Labour.

Full of doggie delights, quality raw frozen dog food and natural treats. The equivalent of good, healthy doggie TV dinners. A good stop to pick up some Christmas doggie treats🐶🎁🐾
