While serving at CIA, I met a Senior Intelligence Officer on the verge of retirement who decided to pass on gems of wisdom on his way out the door. He taught me there were 3 bins in which someone should be able to categorize their actions: 1) Helping people, 2) Solving problems, 3) Helping people solve problems. He said actions outside of that, “Chances are…you’ve been drunken by power.” Too many of our elected officials have allowed themselves to be drunken by power and lost (or never had) a heart for people.
