Some people in Birmingham are frustrated after not having their trash picked up in almost two weeks. Birmingham is in Phase II of its new cart rollout, but some of the people in the second phase haven't had their new carts emptied since pickup was slated to begin on May 1.

Wendell Major was reinstated as Tarrant Police Chief Monday night after a fiery city council meeting with many speaking in support of the chief. Chief Major was placed on administrative leave last week by Mayor Wayman Newton. All five councilmembers voted to reinstate Major effective immediately with Mayor Newton being the only vote against him.

CBS News 48 Hours exclusively shared a deep look into the horrific murders of Christy Giles and Hilda Marcela in L.A. in 2021. Christy was an Alabama native working as a high-end model in California.

Christy's parents have been raising money so they can be in L.A. for as many hearings as possible, to face their daughter's killer and show him how loved she was.

The small, quiet town of Dadeville was rocked Saturday night when the country's latest mass shooting happened at a Sweet Sixteen birthday party downtown. Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says 32 people were hurt and 4 killed, including the brother of the birthday girl.

Yesterday was a bittersweet day as I said goodbye to ABC 36!

I am incredibly blessed to have been able to start my career in my hometown market. Through triumphs and tears, the people of central Kentucky have welcomed me into their homes and lives and allowed me to share their stories, and for that I will be forever grateful.

I have grown so much as a journalist in my time here thanks to wonderful advice and encouragement from our awesome anchors and leadership. I cannot thank y'all enough for the guidance you've given me over the last 20 months.

As for what's next? I've got some RNR scheduled but stay tuned for where I'm heading next! I'll never forget my old Kentucky home ❤️

LexCount took place Wednesday night, the annual count of Lexington's homeless population. The city says more people volunteered this year than ever before! While the numbers won't be released for the next few days, the city expects it to be about the same as in years past.

A heartbreaking classroom shooting in Virginia last week sent a first-grade teacher to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say the teacher is in stable condition as of Monday and the six-year-old student who shot her is being held.

I talked to teachers in Fayette County about the anxieties surrounding school gun violence, especially after an intentional shooting by the teacher's own student.

Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter is facing the impossible decision of euthanizing healthy animals unless 75-100 dogs are adopted out in the next week.

KRRAS says it brings in between 5,500 and 6,500 animals per year. Tuesday alone, 25 more animals were dropped off at the already overwhelmed shelter.

The Ukrainian Pentecostal Church of Lexington, KY draws many refugees to central Kentucky. The church helps set up these families with furnished apartments, but it needs donations.

ABC 36 is mourning the loss of our former chief meteorologist WBTV Meteorologist Jason Myers who was killed in a helicopter crash while on assignment with his current station WBTV in Charlotte.

Everyone I spoke to about Myers sang his praises, truly showing how bright and pure of a person he was to everyone he met. My heart and prayers are with Myers' family and friends during this tragic time.
