We would like to congratulate Acting Lieutenant Josh DeFelice (Right) and Ed Daigneault (not pictured) on 20 years dedicated to the AFD! The town recently hosted an event celebrating town employees tenure serving the town. Josh and Ed are counted on by all members of the department and take pride in their work.

Recently group 3 did some critical thinking and problem solving training using our airbag system. The airbags found on Engine 23 are used to lift large heavy objects from vehicles to concrete slabs that could have potential patients trapped.
This training consisted of operating the airbags with cribbing to obtain a specific height of the backboard. With different people comes different solutions to the same task. Sometimes there is no one correct answer for an emergency situation
Members of Group 3 recently trained on how to operate our aerial master stream device also known as the ladder pipe. It is essential to be able to operate this piece of equipment on the fire ground. This is a valuable tool on Acton's Ladder 28
Today Acting Lieutenant Brent Carter was sworn in as a firefighter relief fund trustee. This committee consists of multiple members of the FD including retired Deputy Chief Vanderhoof and Senior FF/EMT Tom Matthews.
The purpose of the Town of Acton Firefighters’ Relief Fund (the “Fund”) is to provide the financial assistance specified herein to Fund Members when they suffer injury or illness requiring hospitalization, as described more fully herein, or to provide the financial assistance described herein to a specified beneficiary or
beneficiaries when a Fund Member dies.
We want to thank these members for taking time out of their personal time to help support our past, present, and future brothers.
Groups 3 and 4 this week are pump training in simulations and equipment with FDSS. This company is able to provide real life scenarios for pump operators on the fire ground. We are thankful to have them out and forever training for the unexpected.

STAY AWAY FROM DOWNED POWER LINES
It is imperative to stay away from them when seen. This video here shows both local PD and FD in Acton keeping distance while wires arc/ set fire on the ground. These emergency incidents require local utility companies to be resolved.
Easter Sunday AFD group 3 had a working fire in North Acton on Main street. Upon arrival crews found a garage fire which extended to the work van and single family home with exposures.
Thank you for Maynard, MA Fire Department Westford Fire Department Littleton Firefighters Local 4599 for the on scene assistance as well as Boxborough MA Fire Dept. Concord Firefighters Local 1942 for the town coverage. These types of incidents require team effort across multiple towns.
Congratulations to the Recruit class #319!

Today, 8 March 2024, is International Women's Day!
We would like to recognize and thank our FF/P Stacey Meade. Stacey joined AFD in 2019 and has been an important piece in day to day operations as well as an integral part of our union. Thank you for all you do Stacey!
Group 1 took advantage of spring like weather this past week and trained on drafting/ operating the blitz gun at Nara park. Acton is lucky enough to have majority of the town covered with fire hydrants but like most departments we must train for any and all scenarios.
