Looking forward to Brian Mays Badger documentary next Friday on BBC. I've noticed on a certain farming page that they're getting a bit twitchy, worried it will change the narrative they've been able to sell the Tories in recent years. Some of the comments to the posts on the farming page make me laugh. Imagine not seeing the irony of telling a doctor in Astrophysics to stick to playing the guitar and yet a sheep farmer is the font of all knowledge. As always whenever a certain section of the population want to kill something, they bring out either the Curlew or the Hedgehog to justify their slaughter. Let's just be clear, the decline in both species has never been natural predation from a native predator. It's been loss of habitat, pesticides, weedkiller, cars, cutting hay meadows before ground nesting birds can fledge. In fact it's everything to do with an over population of humans and their demands on the planet.
Just to show how people try to twist the narrative. Imagine putting up a video of an obviously sick hedgehog, out during the day near a pheasant feeder and then trying to make out pheasant rearing is somehow good for nature, you couldn't make it up. But that's what a certain farming page tries to sell.

As you are all aware , Stand with Badgers have been actively involved in trying to protect this habitat and these Badgers. Unfortunately An Bord Pleanala think otherwise despite the protected status afforded to Badgers.

Planning board approves 70-home Cornamaddy project | Westmeath Independent A development of 70 new homes in Cornamaddy has been given final planning approval, with An Bord Pleanála recently upholding a decision by Westmeath County Council to grant permission for the project.

Absolutely shocking decision 🤬🤬🤬

Ms McCague concluded that the project would be detrimental to badgers in the area, but she said this impact was not sufficient grounds to refuse permission for the new housing. "I accept that the proposed development, in combination with residential development in the area, will negatively impact on badgers," she wrote.

Despite the 1989 study that cleared badgers of being a primary source of spreading bovine TB, the DAFM and DEFRA continue to unjustly blame and cull these creatures decades later. Why ?

1989- “The most intensive study ever carried out in Ireland into the spread of bovine TB has cleared the badger.
Details of the 10-year study were released on Friday at the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society's Annual Winter Fair at the King's Hall in Belfast.”

Funds raised will go to the rescue, rehabilitation and conservation of badgers in the UK and Ireland.
