TVP Health is the only US based nonprofit to have received FDA approval for emergency use. With over 200 volunteers, TVP Health was able to develop a rapid, scalable, and low-cost ventilator - AIRA - to improve access to ventilators for the world’s most vulnerable populations. As a secondary goal, through AIRA’s development processes, TVP Health aims to provide future economic opportunity (jobs) for Americans.
All money collected is used to make ventilators and bring the product to market through the proper regulatory pathways for broadest global reach.

The United States is dominating the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. After social distancing and lockdowns for over a year, it’s great to see all of the countries come together and compete. However, we’d be remiss not to acknowledge that some of the nations present at the Olympics do not have access to an adequate supply of Covid vaccines or life-saving medical devices. The Delta variant is projected to cause another rise in global cases and it’s important that these nations’ hospitals are ready for the next surge. Even before Covid-19, ventilators were extremely expensive and in short supply. When the pandemic exposed this shortage, we decided to do something about it—thus the very reason why TVP Health was created in the first place. We want to give everyone, anywhere in the world, an opportunity for a long and healthy life by providing innovative and affordable medical devices.
You have probably heard about the COVID-19 Delta variant in recent weeks. Due to conflicting news stories regarding the recent spread of the variant and the true threat it poses, however, a clear understanding of the variant may be hard to reach. But not for long—TVP Health has you covered. Our latest blog post serves as a compilation of the most important facts pertaining to the origination of the variant and its development into a global crisis.

In the last several months since our previous newsletter, we have seen major changes in both the coronavirus pandemic as well as our organization. These major changes include the achievement of Emergency Use Authorization for our AIRA ventilator and a rebrand from The Ventilator Project to TVP Health. UPDATE: We are thrilled to announce that our ventilator, AIRA, has received Emergency Use Authorization!
EUA (Emergency Use Authorization) is an authorization set by the FDA that facilitates increased availability of medical devices which can help the country in times of significant need. The process to get an EUA, though expedited, is still vigorous and typically takes much longer, and with many more resources than an all volunteer team- But in one year, we did it.
This unlocks a whole new phase of growth and advancement for our team, and we could not be more excited to make a direct impact on hospitals and countries around the globe. Follow our journey, donate, or join our volunteer staff at www.theventilatorproject.org!

Ventilators are critical not only in treating COVID-19 patients, but also in to treat patients with pneumonia, asthma, lung diseases, head injury or stroke, sudden cardiac arrest, if you are going to have surgery with general anesthesia, and more.
South Sudan, a country with a population of 12 million only has 4 ventilators. Burkina Faso has 11 ventilators, Sierra Leone 13, and Central African Republic 3. ()
We are focused on bringing AIRA, our low-cost, rapidly producible ventilator to the world. But we need your help. If you're able to contribute, it will greatly support what we do.

Projections by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation puts the current global demand for ventilators at 82,489, which has increased by 15,734 this week. However, that number will is expected to grow. By February 2021, it is projected that the India will have a demand for 52,184 ventilators. By January 2021, Russia and the United States will need 16,488 and 14,015 more ventilators respectively.
Even before COVID-19, ventilators were in short supply and overwhelmingly expensive. The demand for these life-saving machines have been exacerbated by the pandemic, which is why we’re dedicated to bringing the AIRA to life. https://theventilatorproject.org/

Helping the World Breathe in a Time of Crisis
In Boston, a robotic entrepreneur and his team have paused their work to lend a hand in the immediate global health crisis. It is quickly becoming clear that COVID-19 is extremely serious. People are getting sick at an alarming rate and the US healthcare system is not ready; the world is not ready.
As patients flood into hospitals, medical supplies are dwindling. Early reports from New York and Seattle show both cities are experiencing intensive care bed shortages and looming ventilator shortages.
Ventilators, or mechanical breathing machines, are a crucial lifesaving tool that oxygenates a patient’s blood when their lungs are unable to because they are full of fluid. In one of the first large scale studies from Wuhan, the New England Journal of Medicine recorded that about 2.3% of COVID-19 patients will require these machines to stay alive.
A recent report from the Center for Health Security at Johns Hopkins highlighted that there were about 160,000 ventilators available for patient care. Current estimates from an Imperial College London report show that if we continue on our current trajectory, US demand for ventilators would be 30 times current supply. If mitigation efforts slow the disease, demand is still likely to grow above eight times current supply.
