Today, Dr. Patrick Umoh, the honourable member representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency, presented a motion on the urgent need for the Federal Government to appoint new justices to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. This motion was prompted by the current status of the Supreme Court, which operates with only 10 justices, a number that falls short of the constitutionally required 21 justices. According to the motion, the shortage is causing delays in the handling of electoral matters, obstructing the timely delivery of justice, hindering economic development, and placing significant mental and physical pressure on the existing Supreme Court justices. The motion called upon the Federal Government to appoint new justices to the Supreme Court to expedite the resolution of pending cases. Additionally, it commended the President for his support of the judiciary, particularly for signing an important amendment unifying the retirement age and pension benefits of judicial officers. The motion received unanimous endorsement from members of House and was subsequently referred to the Committee on Federal Judiciary for further action. The plenary session was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

Yesterday, Dr. Patrick Umoh, the member representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency, presented a petition to the House titled "Wrongful Termination of Appointment by Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited: A Passionate Appeal for Intervention and Redress", authored by Chris Okorie, Esq.

At the resumption of Plenary today, Dr. Patrick Umoh, KSJI, member representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency, presented a petition before the House titled, "Abuse of Police Powers, Threat to Life and Illegal Disposal of Exhibit CER/505/2021", authored by E. E. Philips, Esq. He also led the debate on "A Bill for an Act to Amend the Acts Authentication Act, Cap A2 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 after the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, graciously yielded the floor to him, allowing him lead the debate. This bill, which he co-sponsors, aims to establish a clear timeframe within which the Clerk of the House must fulfil the crucial duty of transmitting bills passed by the National Assembly to the President for his assent. It seeks to provide the timeframe for the performance of the functions of the Clerk. The Bill which passed its second reading, was referred to the Committee on Justice by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass.

Speaking on Arise News Night on Saturday, September 16, 2023, Hon. Umoh stressed that the 10th Assembly has made significant progress during its first 100 days under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass, Speaker of the House of Representatives. He remarked that, "the agenda of the current national assembly is clear". "We are looking at economic diversification, empowerment, education, national security, transparency in governance, healthcare for all, and security", he said. While listing the achievements of the 10th Assembly in the aspect of bills, motions, resolutions and investigative hearings, Hon. Umoh noted that "many aspects of our national life almost needed to be jump-started" and that the post subsidy experience has shown Nigeria is getting it right. INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY, 2023 On Saturday, August 12, 2023, Dr. Patrick Umoh, KSJI, member representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency attended the International Youth Day, 2023, hosted by the Akwa Ibom Community Abuja, Youth Wing with the theme, "Green Skills for Youth: towards a Sustainable World''. He outlined several environmental difficulties that Nigeria is now dealing with, including pollution, deforestation, and climate change, and encouraged Nigerian youths to develop green skills in order to deal with these issues. Dr. Umoh also charged the Youths to reduce their overall reliance on oil and acquire green skills in sustainable agriculture, waste management, renewable energy, and energy efficiency.
