When you have a feeling flashback, you’re not remembering the past—you are reliving it.

You are feeling the same fear, the same shame, the same kind of overwhelm that you did when the trauma happened. The threat feels real now because it was real then. The shame feels real because you were shamed. The hopelessness feels real because it’s a feeling memory of what was truly a hopeless situation.

In these moments, keep reminding yourself that you’re triggered, that it’s just a feeling memory. A memory will run its course and pass if you can let it do so.

Trauma healing is not about sidestepping your pain or speeding through your emotions. It's about recognizing your trauma, allowing yourself the space to feel, and taking the necessary steps towards recovery.

Contrary to outdated advice like "Avoid thinking about it, and you'll feel better", "Just be strong and push through the trauma", "Replace negative thoughts with positive ones immediately", and "Ignore your feelings, they'll eventually go away", these methods are not beneficial.

Healing from trauma is a journey. It requires patience, compassion, and professional guidance.
