Happy ! What are you stitching today? 🧵🪡 [Spool of thread emoji, needle and thread emoji]

I’m currently in a hospital waiting room as a loved one goes into surgery for kidney stones. (Ouch!) I have a small needlepoint project here with me. I appreciate the amount of calm embroidery gives me in a moment like this, bringing focus and rhythm into my life. I hope your hands are happily busy today,

Happy Flashback Friday! Just for fun, here is my first ever full project, a hoop by Hoffelt that I made for my Mom. I "discovered" --the embroidery technique used to add and blend colors to embroidery designs. I also thought it would be fun to add gold thread to the purple flowers. I tried gluing the fabric into the hoop but unfortunately as you can see the glue left behind some grease stains.

A beautiful kit and such a pleasure to learn on. Thank you to Hoffelt Co for making such beautiful kits and inspiring future everywhere!

This chain was all I was able to get done after a two hour class and then FOUR MORE HOURS of practice. It doesn’t help that I’m left handed. At least with embroidery you can figure out most stitches within a few minutes. What crafts are you struggling with? What are your preferred ways to learn a new medium? It’s something I’ve been thinking about as I inch toward the finish line for the I want to sell. It’s ! What are you working on?

I returned to the project I was working on using the new thread. I love working with the thread and the colors are beautiful but I’m really unhappy with how this piece is coming out.

I used a design from my upcoming but I think it was ultimately too small and delicate for this thread.

Thanks to the lovely ladies at the special interest group (open to all, including non members, join our monthly Zooms!) I realized the needle I was using was too small and it was fraying the thread. And today I realized I should have put stabilizer under the design. 🤦‍♀️

But mistakes are how we learn. What are you working on, what have you learned recently while working on a project?

Happy to our sweet studio assistant Courage! One year of having this sweet, cocky little Boopy Bup/Bippy Bums/The Buppy/Fluffy Bear/Sweet Pea in our lives. Thank you for matching us with him. We’ve watched Courage grow from a scared, shy dog who wouldn’t make a peep or play with any of his toys to a happy, active boy who will always play with the biggest dog in the park and has enough attitude to fill his own NYC subway seat. We love you, sweet Courage!

You don't need to buy more stuff for a sustainable future but you can literally craft your way to one.

This , we're all getting bombarded with messages about sustainable clothes: organic cotton socks, recycled polyester pants, etc., etc. but are any of these items really all that sustainable when we're buying them en masse? They still need to get shipped half way around the world to get into our hands. And what about the clothes we already have?

's newsletter this week reminded me of why I am creating Pochoir.NYC We are an company with artwork deliberately sized for wardrobe staples. Vanessa's Open Thread column discussed all sorts of marvelous new fabrics made from food waste but they aren't ready for prime time and we need a solution now. She writes, "In any case, one of the simpler problems in fashion is not really being grappled with at all: the fact that we make and buy — and thus waste — too much stuff. Until we have that matter under control, fashion will never be sustainable."

This , become a . Don't let all those sales entice you into buying more, more, more. Paint, cut, sew, embroider and otherwise breathe new life into the clothes you already have. And stay tuned for more updates about our kits.

So I do t usually do this but I read a Washington grin Post article about how a group of wyt Texans successfully sued to force a federal agency for minority business owners to now work for everyone.
So I posted my sassy comment on Facebook (slide 3). Then some idiot fu***it said *I* sounded racist generalizing all white people. Look at my profile pic, how can I be racist against myself, du***ss? And again I did what a normally wouldn’t do: I responded to the troll. Entrepreneurs get so much free s**t. So. Much. It’s overwhelming. There is no need for this agency to serve everyone when and local Small Business programs exist. Oh, and peep his definitely not racist comeback. Why do these people always gravitate to “inner city violence” in their arguments.

Sharing one of my latest finishes: a gorgeous needle book/ pincushion: scissors fob by for . These items were embroidered using a technique called . You make blocks of 5 straight stitches (called klosters) and when you are done, cut out all the fabric yarns in every other square to create a net. Next, you wrap the bars together and you can add little designs in each hole. It’s definitely not the easiest technique at first, especially if you’re not used to counting, but it’s fun and the results are beautiful. What are some of your recent finishes?

Gotta love a dress with a feminist message.
I’ve had a crush on since I discovered The X-Files in high school (😅). Anderson has always used her platform to advocate for animal rights and the rights of indigenous peoples so it’s no surprise she teamed up with , a sustainsble designer who often features handmade textiles from her native Uruguay. This dress exemplifies how embroidery, long seen as “woman’s work,” stays fresh and relevant.
Would you be bold enough to embroider a ***a or a onto your clothes as a feminist statement?

Happy Friday! What is everyone this weekend?

I am currently a seasonal stitcher for a local company that sells custom embroidered cashmere sweaters. So I’m up to my eyeballs in Christmas orders and it’s going to be sweaters all the way down. 🤪

(PS the pattern for this hoop is available at my store!)

Hi friends, I wanted to tell you about ’s newest line of embroidery thread, called . When the algorithm served me that ad, I could not buy this stuff quickly enough.

DMC has somehow figured out how to sell ethically harvested, naturally dyed wool thread at a commercial level. Why is that a big deal? Because now naturally dyed thread isn’t just a specialty item, it’s widely available to all now. Pretty soon we will see these natural, and naturally dyed, threads at and . Maybe one day I’ll include this line in my embroidery kits.

I ordered a few colors and will post my review next week. I also have a million questions that I want to ask ’s PR team, let me know in the comments if you have any of your own!
