Little Wild Childcare Co. Videos

Videos by Little Wild Childcare Co.. We're Little Wild Childcare Co & we are a small home nursery in Banbury.

I know I’m no professional singer. But TRUST me.

Children respond to you, they respond to your breath, your tone, your body language. If you’re painting or sewing or even preparing tea and singing wholesome songs to yourself the children know where you are, they know you’re calm, happy and that they’re safe. They also mimic you in play! Think of Calypso in Bluey with her humming, it is so soothing and changes the atmosphere of the room!

Try it.

Almost all of my songs are from either @singing_mamas_org or from @wondergarten_earlychildhood 🤎

‘A little seed’ - Mabel Watts 🌱 #forestschool #waldorf #homeschool #nature #songs #earlyyears

Today we all laid down and stared at the sky through the leaves. We all laid there and did a deep breath. This is all meditation is, it’s not difficult of complicated. It doesn’t cost money or need any equipment. Teach your children how to pause.

Phonetic Reading 🌱 At my setting I put absolutely NO pressure on reading at all. We practise phonics sounds when the children are interested out and about or in songs. Children should always WANT to read and show an interest before introducing formal ‘reading’ ANYWAY… these videos shows how important it is to teach children PHONIC LETTER SOUNDS as opposed to letter names. This child is accidently reading, she knows the phonetic sounds and is literally saying them aloud! Notice a few things in this video - Self correction from ‘eff’ to ‘ffff’ Reminders that double ‘eh’ equals ‘eee’ Demonstration and finger pointing EVERY TIME This child is 29 months old and is full time at Little Wild 🌱 Ps. Every child develops differently and is interested in DIFFERENT things. All children excel in areas that interest them and bring them JOY. Never pressure a child to ‘meet’ an area of learning and seek professional advice if concerned about your child’s development.

Child led learning gets a really bad reputation… Lots of people think ‘child led’ means children doing whatever they like and adults not paying attention. Which is so far from the truth. Child led learning is an adult giving advice, information and help to the child when required or asked by the child either verbally or non verbally. Rather than ‘planning’ activities to help children reach their EYFS goals, I just let them be children and create activities where we have loads of fun and you see they all naturally happen anyway. I have genuinely worked in nursery settings where staff have said ‘can you jump?’ to a child… they child jumped and the staff member snapped a photo and ticked it off the child’s EYFS book. What did the child learn from that?! I’d rather take the children to the woods, let them explore in their own time and me to witness their first jump off a log with the biggest grin on their faces of pride! And just for your understanding I’ll write every EYFS area that Arlo ticks off in this SINGLE video playing Gruffalo: 🌿Generally focuses on an activity of their own choice 🌿Develop pretend play 🌿Use speech sounds 🌿Pay attention to more than one thing at a time 🌿Is able to talk about books 🌿Play with increasing confidence on their own 🌿Feel confident when taken out 🌿Feel strong enough to express a range of emotions 🌿Develops friendships with others 🌿Gradually gain control on their whole body 🌿Continue to develop their movement skills 🌿Use large muscle movements … I could go on! #forestschool #banbury #childminder #earlyyears #childminder #oxfordshire #homeschooling #outdoorschool #childcare #banburyshire #cotswolds

Toddler won’t sleep? Get outside 🌳 #forestschool #banbury #childminder #oxfordshire #earlyyears #homeschooling

Raising children requires so much trust. If you trust your child and they trust you it makes it a whole lot easier! Arlo has been chopping since he was about 6 months old, starting with a wooden chopper and onto baby knives. Today he asked to help chop the cheese. I explained it was an adult knife and that he cannot touch the blade and pointed to where he shouldn’t touch. He nodded and understood. Every single mother instinct tells you to grab it out of their hands. But he was so gentle and careful, making meaningful cuts and getting the greatest sense of satisfaction. Every child is different and I am in no way recommending giving toddlers adult knives. But I am saying that if you teach them how to use knives, be around fire, safely swim and cross large bodies of water, climb and get down from heights, use consent and understand why there are boundaries… it makes toddler life a little bit less scary. Have you implemented any dangerous things safely? Note: Arlo is my own child and all children in my care use child safe equipment with risk assessments in place. #forestschool #outdoorschool #education #childminder #banbury #oxfordshire #earlyyears #homeschooling #dangerousthingscarefully #dangerousthingssafely

Children need to learn about the world by BEING in it. They need to be messy, loud and cautious. They need to climb and run and jump. They need to dig for worms and look at birds in the trees, find woodlice under logs and use sticks as swords. It’s an integral part of growing up and it’s being a rarity 😢 Great places in Oxfordshire to get your children outdoors and involved are @littlenatureseekers @hoglet_and_twig @muddymayhem_uk but it doesn’t need to cost a penny - take your lunch to the woods and just explore. You’ll be amazed how much you’ll find to do! #outdoornursery #outdoorschool #forestschool #childminder #homenursery #homeeducation #messyplay #outdoorlearning #oxfordshire
