As the U.S. election moves forward, many are feeling discouraged and fearful to engage. Yet others are growing more adamant in partisan ideologies and ideas. As we navigate this time, it would be helpful to be careful with our vocabulary to minimize unintended misunderstanding. We can start with political and partisan, two concepts with some overlap but that mean different things. How do you react to these two words? Can you find motivation to vote in either or both terms? Last week, Listen First Project invited me to share a bit about #HabitsofDiscourse for their #ListenFirst Friday celebration! Habits of Discourse Helping you develop practices for healthier engagement across difference. Be a better person, by improving how you dialogue, be a better community, by building capacity for engagement, thrive together, by tackling critical issues. Our approach also aims to build habits of civil discourse to match our everyday lives, rather than focusing on particular moments of deliberation.
